As part of one of my retail jobs I help sell guns. The number of people who bought a gun for the first time was staggering. Most of them were surprised at the amount of background checks they had to do to even purchase it. They admitted that they had thought it was "too easy" to buy guns.
My mom and step dad bought their firsts recently. It took them less than 20 minutes to walk away with two new handguns and a hundred bullets each. A friend did the same but took a little longer due to literally knowing nothing about guns (he still doesn’t know how to fire)
It depends on your stare. Notoriously “anti gun” California has a process for getting a gun that is easier than getting a drivers license and faster too. Of course California also has broken background checks for ammo- I spoke to a woman who denied a county sheriff ammo because they “failed” (the check for ammo uses its own database and people who aren’t prohibited from buying can fail because of database errors.)
States like Connecticut (where historically and even today many guns including AR pattern riffles are produced by a fairly large gun industry) or Texas (which is generally considered gun crazy) the requirements to buy a gun often require you to show proof of passing an accredited firearms handling and safety course and can take some time to complete. So it’s all over the board how difficult it will be tor how much time it will take to eat a gun depending on where you live.
Well, it is the truth. Many “anti gun” politicians and advocates have their own body guards or security forces who are armed. Let’s be honest- MOST people trust themselves, maybe a few people they know to own guns, it’s the people we don’t know that we don’t trust. Most law abiding people don’t know too many folks they would be worried would be mass shooters or murderers. I mean- not too many people would keep those they think are potentially unstable and dangerous as close acquaintances unless they are cut from the same cloth (not counting those with friends who have conditions like schizophrenia, bpd, depression etc.)
If you’ve ever heard someone talk about “2nd amendment rights” and thought how ignorant and illogical they sound- crazy even. How they are fueled by fear and rhetoric- well... that’s also how people who’s bulk of firearms knowledge comes from rhetoric and being scared of guns because the military uses them or they’ve been in a video game or movie, or just look or sound scary.
There are many legitimate purposes in sporting, self defense, and more to own many different weapons. At the end of the day, sometimes as much as we like to think our world is so orderly and civilized and we are safe and in “good hands,” sometimes that just isn’t true. Not everyone needs or should own a gun. Not every firearm should be available to the general public. But people on all sides of the issue need to be more logical, less emotional, more practical, and remember that guns are an important tool for many people who aren’t criminals or call of duty wannabes. Civilians who use and enjoy them responsibly.
Everyone is anti gun until they feel like they need a gun. Just because you’ve never felt that- consider yourself privileged. Be glad you live a life where you can feel safe and you don’t need to worry about wild animals or defending yourself, hunting your own food or protecting your land and animals from predators. I’m happy for you. But don’t try to take away a tool from people who don’t have your privilege.
Call of duty wannabes. Man... that nails it. Those people are insufferable... had a dude go on about guns on FF14 discord to the point he asked me to get on VC, which I did, cuz, fuck it, why not, then proceeded to sit there and go "not full metal jacket" with his new gun asking if I want some fuck.. and then posted a bunch of pepe frog pictures and Elon Musk. (YEAH IF YOU EVER FIND THIS FRENCHI KNOW I DO NOT GIVE A FUCK LULZ).
What if I didn't by a gun because you don't add inches to your dick?
edit: I kid, I already had the guns I needed prior. We've gone over my strategy... silent as possible, then threat with gun then pew pew from guns in safe space then window for escape route then climb around because fuck you, you can't out batman me.
