Ugh I listened to a bit while I cleaned yesterday. At least with Biden and Harris she is a composed individual who speaks coherently but Pence sounded just like trump yesterday
Lol Harris speaks coherently?
Sam Harris might do
Kamala doesn't seem to
She's a politician
And not even a good one
Mind you, there aren't many good ones around
On the whole of say this debate was MUCH better and held worlds more value than the televised seizure known as “the 2020 presidential debate.” But... sadly holding ANY value would make that true, so it’s not a strong endorsement. By and large Harris and Pence were both overall coherent to me. Neither seemed fond of answering direct questions, Pence was literally using his time to answer the last question asked for a good portion of the thing, and Harris said “Joe Biden” so many times that I figured he’d promised her 20 bucks any time she said his name. Both didn’t respect the rules or the format, but at least this moderator did a decent job. We could chalk it up to passion- but it just seemed childish to me.
I strongly doubt, wether either debate changed anyone’s minds about which president they would vote for if they already had a favorite leading up to these debates. We didn’t see anything new and we really didn’t get any solid info on what each camp thinks that we didn’t already have.
I really don't see why people watch debates for anything of substance. They really boil down to who can take up the most watch time. Besides, at this point the polarization of candidates has been so great that I'd be very surprised to find anyone who was actually struggling to pick a candidate for policy reasons.
Lol. True. “Well gee... I could go for Trump or Biden.... but it’s really gonna come down to how they feel about medicinal marijuana...” I would have to say that in all likelihood... the fundamental deciders for most voters this go round are less about policy and more about ideology.
Even so. Debates to me are less about persuasion and more like argumentative duels. Sure they can be fun to watch but if the premise is inherently about who "wins", then a debate is reduced from refinement of ideas to competition of ideologies. I think most voters have already decided who they're going for, they're just watching the debate to see the candidate of their choice "Win".
I would agree. I don’t think at this point most political discourse in general is about exchanging ideologies, seeing different view points, or even a way to test their own ideas validity. As you say, I think things are now more than ever- about just seeing ones own views or “side” validated- or at the least, validating their idea that a certain group are all “idiots.”
I got tired of the overused term "jobs" . Every question was answered with American jobs for blue collared Americans. Economy? Jobs. Environment? Jobs
Covid response? Jobs .. neither candidate actually answered any questions. I was really hoping kamala was going to say, you've got a bug on your head...
