Yeah it still sort of surprises me that this guy pops up on the internet in a positive light as often as he does. I dont personally have a dog in the fight but it seems like a LOT of Canadians are unhappy with him. Would love some more info directly from a Canadian about it.
Canada has 5 political parties forming the current Parliament. Trudeau is the leader of the majority Liberal Party-a further left version of the Democrats, they elected the most MP's, so he gets to be the PM. During the 20th century, they have formed the Government for 70 of those years. The Official Opposition(next highest amount of elected MP's) Conservatives, are a less RW version of the Republicans. The 3 other parties are the Bloc Québécois-a regional party representing Quebec, the NDP-which is left of the Libs and the Green Party. The majority of Canada's population is in Ontario and Quebec, so they have a bigger impact than western Canada's more right leaning population. Like Americans, we identify with a party and sometimes rag on the others. Trudeau's PM, and so he's a target-not that he doesn't deserve to get ragged on, it just comes with the territory, even if you're actually doing a good job. Trudeau would be doing a good job if he could just stop commiting crimes, pandering to everyone in particular, and failing to handle the economic collapse occurring in western Canada. Just that stuff tho.
.
Covid and BLM did him a huge favour because I'm pretty sure there would have been some sort of racial blow-out over here if that hadn't happened.
It's interesting how pretty much every other country in the world has their main leader be the leader of the majority party in their Parliament, outside of the US. If we ran this system, I guess either Mitch McConnell or Nancy Pelosi (depending on whether it would be based on the Senate or the House) would be President.
I think that when they select their party leader, there is still a consideration given to overall "voter appeal". It's not as if the leader is automatically the smartest and/or most politically astute, just the most palatable to the party, and hopefully, the voters.
Oh, and in the States, your Congressmen would be analogous to our 338 Members of Parliament, each representing an electoral district(riding) and elected by that riding's voters.
@interesting I'm a fairly factual individual but when it comes to politics I look at a broad spectrum, filter it through my experiences, thoughts, etc, and make a decision on what is happening. I may not be the best to ask about the realities of Trudeau's intentions. I can say this though. Trudeau Sr. cost my father his house. A father, mother, and four children walked out of their home due to the National Energy Program. Trudeau Sr. knew and was friends with the communist Castro. Trudeau Jr. went to Castro's funeral, he freed and paid a convicted terrorist, he is destroying the Canadian economy, and is allowing the destruction of what Canada is. Those are the quick and dirty facts. There is much more that I can tell you but you will only find that it will unsettle you further. I hope that answers your question in a different way then Carbontech's.
Sorry for the long rant.
