i don't really see this as a problem, these CEO's lead the companies through years of growth and profit, are they not entitled to a payout when they leave?

Except they're not leaving. They get to keep their jobs with this extra while a bunch of their employees are cut

and they're still making the decisions to keep the businesses going. Either some go now, or they all keep their jobs and all go in 6 months
