The most common species is Picea abies, the Norway spruce or European spruce, which is also sent to London every year, another species we use is Abies alba, the European silver fir or silver fir, the least used species is Pinus sylvestris, Scots pine (UK), Scotch pine (US), European red pine, or Baltic pine, it's very hard to find a good, straight, well branched specimen of these
As it is Christmas I wanted to start Treesubstance off with something memorable and properly seasonal. This is the Colorado Blue Spruce or picea pungens. It's a coniferous tree native to North America. The blue-green needles give it a very distinct look compared to other spruces that are only green.
The Colorado Blue Spruce is a favourite Christmas tree because of it's distinctive colour and aroma. The tree grows up to 75 feet and is an impressive site when properly cared for. Though when this tree is stressed the blue colouration disappears temporarily but proper care and nutrition brings it back.
Hope you guys will enjoy this as I know @demryn will. Merry Christmas, guys.
