A revolver might be too complicated to work in the Wizarding World. I'd recommend a break-action as a back-up. And maybe a direct blowback would work? Depends on what the limit before tech goes fucky is.
Unless I'm mistaken, magic fuckery only affects electronic devices. This only happens in places where there is a high amount of "magic in the air" although given that the ministry of magic is in the dead center of London, I would assume they can do something to control that, they just don't bother in remote places like Hogwarts.
Regardless, mechanics, clockwork, hydraulics, etc, should all work within Hogwarts. They do have clocks, after all.
The car being fucked was most likely just the car itself having a hissy fit. It's pretty established that the thing literally had a mind of its own, and with that level of magical enhancement it's probably not the battery nor the engine keeping it running.
However I was wondering about Colin Creevey's camera, which would have had a flash capacitor in it. He hardly seemed to have the magical know-how to provide a magical alternative, and it wasn't until a ways into the book that he figured out that he could make his polaroids move.
As in any post that mentions Harry Potter and guns, I'll leave this copy pasta here, because it's one of those things that is so good, that everyone should get to read it :

For those who like the idea of Harry Potter with a gun, I recommend No Fate by AndrewWolfe. Should get close to Muggle-Solutions!Harry eventually.

Either way, it's all fun and games until Harry has a gat.
