I believe there is a safety switch. While driving the only shift you can use is neutral while moving. Reverse can only be used when stopped or not moving

Or just get a manual

Dude that's terrible for your car. I've done it twice without hitting the break, when learning how to drive and I didn't even have that. Not to mention the sound it makes once you've made the mistake. My grandma was terrified for me driving in her car again, for a while
