Most religion reiterate or outright steal celebrations to drive attention away from the previous faith. "Christmas" and "Easter" existed before Christianity and something likely existed before "Christmas" and "Easter".
And doing so not only helps blur the lines between religions and distract the former one's practitioners, it also makes the transition easier for them.
Well, I've been to hundreds of services and masses, and while some of the denominations certainly believe that the Body of Christ is present in the bread and wine, I've never seen or even heard of an animal sacrifice.
