Yesterday I posted Hokusai's famous tentacle porn, and here's a modern, softer rendering of this same concept. The aggressive sexuality present in the former is here a sweeter relationship, the girl is gently holding a tentacle, as if pulling it towards her, and they're looking at each other tenderly. The pastel colors and androgynous silhouette give off a child-like vibe.
Aya Takano is an artist of the Superflat movement, that uses little to no perspective and bright colors to show something devoid of depth, both physically and metaphorically. Murakami, the creator of this concept, said it illustrates consumerism.
Here, Takano has kept the same fluidity of lines as Hokusai, the same proximity with nature, the human and sea creatures share the same energy. The bubbles and pearls in her hair make it look even more dream-like, and the colors coming from above show an idea of sunrise. Maybe it's the youth of this movement, or the will to go towards a less harsh way of living.
