That's a lovely way to deal with this dreadful condition.

Yeah. Currently doing this to my grandma. She was telling me about her wedding (75~ years ago) wich to her took place yesterday and I asked her why she didn't invite me. "I guess I forgot" she said but promised to invite me "next time"
Grandpa has told me several times about that time in Italy his unit went to another unit's designated bar, and a fight broke out, and the bartender hid guys from the MPs by letting them in an underground tunnel, and it came out ahead of where the MPs were driving everyone they arrested. And so grandpa waved at the guys he helped beat up and left to be arrested while they rode passed with the MPs.
It makes sense he named his youngest son "Chad". Had to pass the energy down the bloodline.
My grandma’s (absolute godsend) memory care place had the slogan “Join their Journey”. It was all about meeting them where they were and letting them live rich, fun lives, regardless of if the details of those lives were entirely current.
My grandpa had a series of illnesses throughout the end of his life that made him lose almost all his memory, and he could barely speak by the end. For example, any time I went to visit him he wouldn't know who I was. But one time, my cousin gave him a laptop and told him to write something down, and to everyone's surprise he wrote the full names of his 3 children and the words "I'm very far away". I couldn't believe it when my cousin told the rest of the family about it, memory is such a weird thing
That is such a beautiful story, thank you. My dad suffered a brain injury a couple of years ago in a hunting accident. Not shot, the damn fool just slipped and fell off a watch tower when moose hunting. We're all just glad he's alive but his cognitive functions like long/short term memory and some motor functions where damaged. Still, he kinda recognizes us and last christmas he mostly sat in his chair telling everyone how much he loved us and how wonderful it is that we were all there. Getting a little teary eyed just thinking about him.
