Listen. Ill-fitting clothes, or even a bad cut, just look bad. Guy's clothes tend to be just rectangles, women's clothes is more complicated. Unless you, as a guy, have a very specific build or spring for custom clothes, you ain't gonna look good in women's clothes.
a use a towel as a kilt, boxers, and my robe most of my downtime, most of the rest of the time it's basketball shorts and a tee, then for high end things i have a suit. It took me so long to find a decent suit that didn't choke me. God, that's the most annoying shit... I'd rather deal with a bunch of mosquito bites.
Cuts can be changed to better fit men. 70 years ago it was weird for a woman to wear pants but now "masculine" fashion for women is trendy. From a purely practical perspective, it can be done and it won't even be that hard.
Men's fashion is kinda boring nowadays imo, but if people want to change it we don't have to *necessarily* go right towards women's fashion per se. I'm talking badass capes and cloaks, togas or toga-adjacent things, tailored vests and jackets, scarves, patterns, mixing of materials, jewelry etc. All of those things have historical precedent for men. What constitutes as masculine clothing is really narrow nowadays because anything even slightly extravagant is considered queer or feminine. Guys don't have to jump straight into ball gowns (but if they want to, why not?) but can expand their style little by little. If they want to. If not, that's fine too. It's just clothing, it means as much or as little as you want it to.
I’m all for it. It goes back to gender roles in our society though. Most women I know or have been with except the most open minded, when discussing topics like this they reach a point where they just can’t be attracted to a man who deviates too far from what their image of “manliness” should be. When we explore the preferences of bi and homosexual individuals, we find that for example- some lesbians prefer a woman who presents more “masculine” (appearance, personality, either..) and some prefer more “feminine” while some can like either. Some people just love a person and gender or image and identity don’t factor in. That’s somewhat rare- you won’t find most self described Herero sexual men for example saying they would fall in live with another man if he were the “right” man or that they would list for and have sex with a man- once a man says that most would not consider them “heterosexual” but some sort of bisexual or other sexuality by default.
Of Course, men have been traditionally been the gate keepers of manliness. Men have more or less ran society and media until fairly recently in modern history. It is just as likely or more likely that a man will disparage another man for being “girly” or “queer” or otherwise expressing themselves in ways that seem non traditional to another man. The Vikings were noted in records from Europe from the period as being disliked because they bathed regularly and groomed regularly and women liked them for it. The men of Europe felt threatened by the Vikings and their non traditional ways of masculinity in that sense. It becomes a bit silly when we realize many “womens” fashions started out as the default for men. High heels and long hair were traditionally for men. Pink is a shade of red, red and pink were masculine colors and blue was feminine in the west until the 20th century.
Even Masculine icon Teddy Roosevelt was placed in a dress and little curls into childhood. This was normal for boys at the time. Many things have influenced these practices. War changed much of the perception of masculinity- the world wars especially. Soldiers had short hair, cut short to be easier to care for and deal with in theaters of battle as well as to prevent pests like lice. Those who had served would have short hair. It caught on and due to long hair being associated with poor discipline and eventually with anti war or social dissidents in the west, long hair really fell out of favor for men. Pink was a fluke- advertisers had pink and blue items for babies and decided to create a marketing buzz around gendering baby items to drive sales. It worked and I’m so doing shaped cultural perceptions of what was ok for boys and men.
It’s a much longer and more complex topic than I can or will do justice, but our concept of gender and what makes a man a man or a woman a woman and the very concept there are only those two opposites in identity are largely the root. We must have something other than anatomy to distinguish the groups when it comes to “behaving like” or “looking like” one or the other- otherwise there isn’t a need to classify when the classification doesn’t give any useful information.
It isn’t the genitals we are attracted to- we can become attracted to a person before we see or actually know what their genitals are. We ASSUME what genitals they have by what we can see of them. We can be attracted to cartoons or non human objects that resemble or evoke concepts of gender. A “heterosexual” can be sexually or romantically interested in a transgender person based on only what they can see- so their biological sex or even species in the cad rod cartoons and figures etc. has little to do with it.
We are attracted to things that fit the image of what we believe is attractive. We know that what a human is attracted to is in part experience and culture- that people around the world often have patterns (in general statistics) to what traits both physical or otherwise they find attractive. We know that people can “acquire” or change what attracts them as their experience changes.
So to a degree- we are influenced in our attentions by what we see.
For it to be accepted for men to dress or look or “act” “feminine”- it must be normalized. People have to live and grow up in a world where that’s normal. Those born before that time would need to either adjust or not fight against attempts to normalize it, people have to be willing to give up their traditional ideas about gender and gender identity.
It is no different in that way than women working or cursing or wearing pants etc- we look at history books and see the “backwards” ancestors who couldn’t handle it- then we throw fits when trans people want bathroom rights or argue over wether a baker must make a cake for a gay wedding if they think being gay is “wrong.”
History repeats in that sense, and where progress prevails, those who stood against it are remembered as small minded bigots.
I love a woman who curses. People who curse tend to be more honest and have a better sense of humor lol. I like being myself around women, not covering my filthy mouth; I can't ask for them to censor themselves if I won't.
I've also noticed the older I get, the more I enjoy being around women more than men, they are far more empathetic... from just being easier to open up with, to caring, to supporting you; plus are usually more social, so going out is just more fun. With the homies it can easily turn into a 40 hr gaming binge where we say next to nothing or playing basketball and getting into like 3 fist fights in 10 hrs. Those things are fun, no doubt, but the older I get, and the more taxing it becomes, the less I want to do those things. I won't even drink around 90% of my guy friends anymore, That's even before pranking each other and stealing each other's shit as a joke we wind up forgetting about. I'm still at a loss as to has my OG copy of Red Dead Redemption lol
I also have a DS I don't know where I got from... and a few t-shirts. I know who has my Yao Ming jersey, and I know why and how he stole it.. that one doesn't bother me, fit him better anyway.
Lol. OG red dead and a Yao jersey for a DS and some shirts…. Hmmm…. I can’t make a ruling on the math, but you seem ok with it, so I’ll call it as even stevens unofficially.
It’s rather interesting, and speaks to gender identity and how our own concepts of it shape us to a degree- technically there are few reasons why men couldn’t offer similar company to women- but in general we can observe some behaviors and traits that are more common to find in one group than the other. Hormones and such may play a role, and as men age and our test drops we do tend to “mellow out” but what degree of that is hormonal vs. what degree is from accumulated experiences or other changes relating to age…?
Sticky stuff. It’s not the most scientific or perhaps “enlightened” thing to say- but I do feel women tend to have a different “energy” than men- in general. Case by case is it’s own thing. I think getting older also can help us get over a lot of the silly stuff and sexual stuff that can interfere…
… with platonic relationships more when younger. Some people reach the point younger than others, but I think there’s a level of maturity where we are more able to just give respect and feel respected as humans more with less focus on what’s in our pants and more focus on what’s in our heads or hearts.
But yeah- sometimes it’s just nice to be rowdy with the boys too. Lol.
We're gonna go toss grenades with Vigilante n Eaglie! But yeah, I def think part of it is the brain finally maturing enough where most of those impulses from MS and HS are gone. I don't think most women ever understood it easily it is for a guy to randomly get hard. Other dudes will laugh, but then they get it, have it, test kicks in and it's like grrrr.
lol. I do think there’s definitely some misunderstanding between the sexes. We can’t really walk in the others shoes so we can’t really know. It’s like that whole thing comparing pain between two people. If you and I both get identical injuries, one of us might be more effected than the other. So for all we know as men, women might feel a more intense drive than us but are somehow better at dealing with it, or men may feel these drives far beyond what a random woman could cope with. I think from anecdotal evidence it’s important to acknowledge the sex drives and responses of men and women have their differences and just like we should respect it if a person with a “minor cold” or injury says they’re in intense pain, we can’t really understand what the other person is feeling and have to believe them. Grenades sound fun. Enjoy!
caw caw mfer. Dude, Peacemaker is fucked up beyond belief, but it's also hilarious AF. It's quite easily the most non-pornographic fucked up thing I have seen, even though there are few scenes that are, they are tamed by dick jokes and, deep down, a genuine heart. Cena nails it, but you can only see him because of his helmet... unless he's using his invisibility helmet. Vigilante might well the be the BIGGEST DOUCHE EVER... but even he is so goddamn silly you can't help but laugh.
What Gunn did with Vigilante, before he's done with Rocket Racoon in the MCU he has to tell that story; the fucked up R-rated version. Rocket was genetically engineered as a pet for people who will die; all the genetic animals find this incredibly fucked up and revolt and take over the whole planet... and it's based off Rocky Racoon while they were all really high listening to it. He could literally use that as a background song on repeat for the entire fucking story; or just give my furry friend 4 min with a recollection flashback; either way, it was designed to be so fucked up you'd know in GoTG vol 1 that Rocket wasn't lying.
