It's not fear, it's disapprovement of people with self destructive lifestyles having the same access to healthcare as me, while probably paying the same premium for it. Then, on the off chance that I really really need it, there's a huge wait list.
I can sympathize- but the fixation on the “fat” for these things we see is off base. Motorcyclists and automobile drivers make up a larger group with very high incidence of medical treatment. We don’t tend as a society or individuals to direct such scorn to those engaging in risky behaviors like various sports and activities with statistically high medical interventions.
Health tested problems obesity increases risks for are a major strain on our public health- but numerous sources and studies point to heart disease as a world leading medical problem- but those conditions or related conditions carry similar risks for those who are sedentary or engage in common risky behaviors like poor diet, alcohol and drug use, etc.
