The point is in the numbers I'd say. Try find an example of a man getting sexually assaulted by an uber driver. Same thing as with safety advice regarding rape drugs in clubs usually being directed at females.
"Save you life" is a bit of an exaggeration, but probably a good idea any way.
Might be a better idea to avoid ride-sharing, though.

Being sexually assaulted can damage a person for life, so "save your life" ist totally appropriate imo. As to the other point, I don't know how it is in the US but in Germany a "real" cab driver needs to have a clean background check (police clearance certificate) and a health certificate in order to obtain and keep a taxi driver license. An Uber driver only needs a driver's licence.

Not to mention most of this so-called share economy is just avoiding labor and social security costs for corporations, but that's another debate.
Just not in as frightening numbers as the amount of "ladies" that get assaulted, and/or killed.
