Committee to catch conmen

wouldn't it be the committee to stop conmen from being caught since being caught is kinda counter to the subjective needs of said conmen? If your committee is catching conmen i would assume you would want no conmen there because the people that are having their need's disussed are "people that fall for cons from conmen" rather than the conmen themselves.

Well- the premise implies that conmen don’t also fall for conmen- which historically is not true. It is the case that it is not uncommon for particularly skilled and suitable con artists or criminals to be used on committees or special task forces or even accepted into employment of government or private industry because their skills at a potential crime or experience in that space make them excellent at thinking like the subjects of attention. Various security experts including “white hat hackers” often have experience on the “other side of the fence” or may moonlight as one while by day doing the other. So a con artist might be great on a committee to mitigate cons, and if you wanted to know how to make things easier or “better” for con artists they may be well suited to that too I’d think.

Now…. I’m not so sure this adage applies if you’re like- on a committee to help those with extremely severe brain damage or certain other very “low function” states- I’m not sure they’d contribute much to the meeting or provide great feedback. To the contrary, with certain exploitable groups in a context of a medical committee it may actually be a BIGGER red flag if they bring the subject of a meetings discussion on helping to the meeting. But I suppose there is some nuance to things- like what is meant by “helping.”

I imagine you should be skeptical of any conclusions reached regardless of the makeup of the committee in order to ensure the conclusions are as good as they can be.
