Ehhhh…. I can’t say it is never annoying- but I think it’s like babies or puppies. They don’t know better and lack training and self control. The ones who have discipline aren’t a problem, the disruptive ones are the ones still learning. It’s part of growing up and we all go through it. A toddler will shriek and run around and throw things because they want attention and they are excited and they think it’s fun. A teen might be loud and obnoxious, maybe blare music they think is cool or throw trash about or whatever else- they want attention and for people to see how “cool” they are and how “smart” or “funny” or “interesting” they are. It’s as much for them as they find their self image as it is performative.
So while having a toddler or a puppy run around making noises and messes and generally disturbing the peace can be annoying or downright inappropriate, it’s just part of getting to the phase where they hopefully know better and have more self control.
That doesn’t always mean we should ignore these sorts of behaviors- sometimes paying attention is the wrong answer, the kid that loudly blares provocative or obscene things is often like the toddler who watches you intently as they slowly move to do something they aren’t supposed to- they know it’s “wrong” but they want the attention even if it is negative. Other times the best course is to use a moment as a teachable moment- even if they don’t grasp it right then eventually they hopefully will understand. But much like our toddler or our puppy, completely ignoring them because their behavior annoys you or reacting overly harshly can be both cruel and ultimately not constructive to them growing into a more mature self.
That said, there are plenty of mature and delightful younger folks who are perfectly pleasant or at least tolerable to be around, and as you advance in age past middle age you may find that there is a certain nostalgia in watching even the obnoxious ones- maybe that only applies to those like myself who were obnoxious in their youth (though arguably some would say I still am or can be..) but there can be a certain delight in watching kids misbehave for the elderly. Lol.
"Hello police? Yeah, it's little Johnny Cartwright from the flats, I want you to nail the sucker! Bust his ass!
Yeah?? Well what about the god damn Jaffa Cakes Asswipe??"
