Like when people read touch freely stories about aggressive dogs they aren't prepared to take care of and exercise properly and think they can handle it only to realize they are in over their heads with a ferocious dog bred to fight bulls then their dog eats a kids face and all because you gave a thumbs up to some post that highlights the exceptions to the rule?
Your a douche who has clearly never owned a dog. Otherwise you would know its ALL about the trainer. Im a blue pitbull breeder, safe to say Im right. Otherwise I wouldnt be around so many mindless monster as you seem to think.
These are not exceptions to the rule. The Pit Bull breed was known as the nanny breed and was used in war. The first dog decorated by the military for it's braveness was a Pit Bull. The term Pit Bull covers a variety of breeds but is most well known for describing the American Pit Bull Terrier. A breed not recognized by the AKC. A well bred pit should be people friendly. They were bred to be dog aggressive and people friendly (dog aggression and human aggression are NOT related!) but breeders that actually care about the breed have been breeding out the dog aggression each generation.
Every single dog can be agressive. They won't bite if they're not threatened and well raised. I'm currently working as an assistent behaviour coach at an alternative animal shelter. We get in "vicious" dogs who were going to be put down. There are 31 dogs at the moment in the shelter, 7 are pretty new, 13 are doing very well, and 11 are allready up for adoption. They all have a diffrent story but with one red line: How they have been raised. As a pup everything is adorable so they never get a 'time out' but when they're older they get punched for the same misbehaviour as they did as pup. Most off the dogs in this animal shelter I'm working are anxious, dominant, energyfull and some off them are natural hunters. But every single dog gets a chance to change. And every single one of them will.
It's the same thing with humans too. You abuse a child and that child will grow up with some issues, no doubt, mentally or physically. Why wouldn't it be the same with a dog ?
honestly they are sweet little babies who are only aggressive if trained to be, which any dog can. My aunts house was broken into and guess what her pitbull did...She ran upstairs, peed herself and hid. Pitbulls are amazing dogs with great potential!
The morale of the story is if you aren't prepared for what comes after the cute puppy stage of a "vicious" dog, don't get one, get a little shitzu or other small dog
Vodka - You are doing wonderful work. Never stop!!! :) Redhotchilipeppers - that is exactly how a Pit should have reacted to intruders. A well bred, well socialized Pitty should make a lousy watch dog. I won't bore you with a canine genetics lesson, a speech regarding pack behavior, or breed histories, but this is why I breed German Shepherds for sport homes and service dogs for our veterans. We currently have 9 adults and I would dare anyone to attempt breaking into our home day or night as we always have at least 2 in the house at all times (and 1 - 2 times a year a bedroom full of puppies lol) P.S. I rarely track comments but we donate a puppy to a veteran in need each year and our first litter of 2014 will be here in 5 to 7 days. If you know a deserving veteran suffering from PTSD or other disabilities, you can contact me for their nomination on Face Book under the url BlueSapphireKennels while I rebuild our we site on our new domain (was having surgery and lost domain to reseller)
xx3eusxx - Wrong. If you are unprepared to give any breed of puppy the tools to succeed then get a stuffed animal or rescue an adult from a high kill shelter. Or get a cat. Toy breeds account for more bites each year than all medium to giant breeds put together.
I wish every dog was like this. My grandfather once fell and broke his leg while taking a walk in the woods. And his dog thought "Rocky, get heeelp!" was a great new game and jumped around, happy about the attention he got. :-) (both are fine btw)
I saw my cousins pit bull for the 2nd time, the first time he was a pup and so energetic and playful. He grew up so fast, and he is super friendly and we'll behaved. His best friend is a cat, he cries for the cat to come out and play, it's so cute.
I used to have a pit bull named bella. She was the sweetest dog. Lovable and playful. My dads girlfriend moved in and she didn't seem to like the other dog. She was around many other dog but she didn't like this one. He was a 14 year old blind mixed lab. We always kept them separated in the house but one day we ran out really quick for some Mcdonalds. While we were gone the blind dog knocked over the big fence between them and Bella attacked her. We don't know exactly what happened but when we came home Bella had ripped our lab apart under the dinner table... there were four pieces of her... I cried so hard... Bella was waiting at the door, face covered in blood, wagging her nub tail like she did something good. We put her down because they didn't trust her around me since I was only 8...
For anyone saying that all dogs should be judged by their breed and not by the way they are trained:
I own an English Mastiff. They are used as police dogs due to their size, stature and powerful bite. They were even used in battle in ancient times. She would typically be referred to as a 'dangerous dog'. She has been raised by us since she was a puppy and believe me, she's the most loving dog. We ca her our gentle giant. But people judge her because of her size. So one day, I was walking her and this lady walked past us and WHACKED MY DOH WITH HER UMBRELLA AND WHEN I SAID "excuse me?" SHE LOOKED RIGHT AT ME AND SAID "well, I didn't like how she was looking at me". SHE HIT MY DOG BECAUSE MY DOG GLANCED IN HER DIRECTION. THIS IS WHY DOGS ARE AWESOME AND PEOPLE ARE ASSHOLES
