Also, they teach sex ed early now. Our school got a somewhat condensed sex ed course in fifth grade (2010 I think) so we learned that stuff in school actually. We already knew the non technical side of it by then for the most part, but they uh....elaborated....at the least. XD
My parents just kind of waited too long to have the talk with me and my sister, and then when I was thirteen during a long car ride my dad turned down the music and asked "Winter... Melody... Do you girls know about, uh, sex?" And of course we both responded with a big fat yes and he said okay and never brought it up ever again
Thanks school, you gave me what my parents forgot, and thanks to my friend, for teaching me how to ride a bike, and my uncle...for teaching me to ice skate. My parents.
it's funny how I didn't have the talk etiher. We had sex ed at school and they taught us the basic biology but about actual sexuality... that took a long time and a lot of resources and experience to figure out.
mine:
Me: Mum so I've started my period- we're not gonna have the talk or anything right?
Mum: of course not, no need. So long as you remember-
aaaannd que the talk.
For me it was just kind of integrated with growing up. Sexuality and the way babies are made were never a secret. Sex has never been a taboo subject in my household, so it made the talk unnecessary.

And masturbating. I don't think she read it first.
