Shut up sadtruth. We don't shed our inner organs through our genitals causing a bloody mess every month. We just get pissed easily from time to time. You should be thankful...
I really am going to need to create an account at this rate. This is my second scientific rant since the Ebola post. First off yes I suppose that it does seem as bad as a girl's period since we don't bleed/discharge a part of ourselves. But what you people don't know (and isn't even mentioned in this post) is that we get these hormone imbalances every flipping day! Girls, you hormone cycles last 28 days, ours last 24 HOURS!
Now, ladies, ask yourself. How delightful must it be to have a period's mental effects: the horny, the hungry, the angry, the depressed... at random intervals (since it doesn't sync up with our circadian rhythm) every damn day? And on top of that, unlike the female period, which everyone vaguely understands, the male "period" is so obscure that we have to have post like this to notify the masses. Therefore guys going into their first testosterone cycles as just as confused as their female counterparts, without the sympathy..But hey, at least we don't bleed, right?
Counter rant here we go: I don't think you get cramps that make you wanna curl up into a ball and die at random times or have niagra falls everytime you stand up. Also our periods aren't always on cycle Mother Nature is a bitch and may just give it to us at any time. AND DO YOU GET TO FLIP OUT WHENEVER YOU MISS A "MAN PERIOD" AND THINK THAT YOU'RE PREGNANT. I think not. And you might wanna do some math, yours last 24 hours oh good for you ours last 24 hours for up to seven. fucking. days. So before you try to rant about periods try being a girl or actually talking to one. :)
Oh God he cramps are literally hell I couldnt move and I took every possible pain medication possible NOTHING HAPPENED. ITS HELL it's litterally like twisting a knife in your stomach maybe worse. I know a girl who threw up because it was so bad.
Right, so hi girlinwonderland, this is the guest who posted that giant mess. Anyway, I guess it must have come off as me trying to talk down female periods, but I'm really not going for that. It's obvious that a girl's period is more painful in the physical sense, since biological repercussions accompany your cycles (the detaching of the unfertilized egg and the blood needed to flush it out)
But in the end that's a biological function which relies on your hormone cycle for timing. But, if we want to talk direct effects of our hormone imbalances, a female cycle is much gentler on the body and psyche. Since you have a 7 day low point in a 28 day cycle, comparably guys have to undergo a peak and low in our testosterone in the span of a day, then the next and the next. Not just 7, 28, or even 365, but ever day of our lives. We don't get a 21 day stable period to recover... Also on the missed "man period", if that ever did happen, we would develop Parkinsons, not a baby. Cheers~
I would love some actual scientifical data on this. Guest, do you happen to have some links at your disposal?
I'd be really grateful and to show that gratitude I won't start on how bad periods are because they're actually visible to everybody, annoying, painful, horrible, dirty and overall much more terrible than jumpy hormones of men. :) Thank you!
Right so your ever lovable ,and most likely to get labeled as a Chauvinist at the end of this, Guest is back~ So thanks for the interest, Lindsmolinari. On my first read through I was rather delighted that there was someone being so polite and engaging, when I only expected continued counter arguments. So, I busied myself with trying to recall specific articles to hunt down that would address your questions. Then upon rereading, your reply seemed a tad sarcastic and I couldn't decide if it was just my imagination. En route that line of thought, I realized I wasn't sure what you wanted more info on, the male testosterone cycles, the frequency and/or symptoms that accompany our swings in hormonal levels, or perhaps the last bit I mentioned on Parkinson's disorder. Anyway, if you're genuinely interested, if you could clear that up for me I'll be more than happy to get you whatever research is at my disposal. Cheers~
Also, its not like females only experience hell in the 7 days. Get your facts straight. Its not heaven for 21 days and then hell for the 7, cramps and things like that happen anytime beforehand too.
Guest, I was not being sarcastic. I go to medschool, these things interest me a lot.
At the same time, I am a woman and I know everything about how unpleasant periods and hormonal cycles can be. What I do not know, is how being a male feels when your hormones are fucking around. I would prefer not to start a pointless discussion about which is worse, male or female hormonal changes because it's quite obvious we can't do that completely objectively, given that each individual only experiences one thing, never both and thus, shall we say so, roots for their own team.
If you could provide me with those links, it would be super. If you wish to feel offended due to possible traces of sarcasm, that's all right with me, too. You have the right to do whatever you want.
Right, Lindsmolinari, thanks for replying in such a charming manner. I apologize for suspecting sarcasm, but like many of us I have had my share of unkind virtual treatment. All the same, I was immensely pleased that someone was taking an interest in a topic I thought I was only be touching base on in the comment sections while batting off counter arguments. I also appreciated your sense of neutrality on such a topic of dissension, given that it lets me speak my piece without sounding too much like a sectarian. Enough with the flattery, though. I'm a chemical engineering student with extensive knowledge and interest into psychology. As so, Hormones and their effects on the mind and cognitive functions has been a center of interest for me. I found several articles and studies for you that helped me a lot in my own research on the documented effects of hormonal cycles within men, specifically, testosterone. And due to size restrictions on these comments, I'll have to post them below.
Right, Guest here. These are the links I thought would be of interest.
One site of interest has been
" menalive.com/about-men-alive/ "
The website focuses on the mental and cognitive side of testosterone levels within men (the stress, the depression, the mood swings, the confidence, to even male menopause). The author, Jed Diamond (someone who has my deep respect for his approach and research towards the field), writes his articles with both genders in mind. Which led me to offer it as a good place to gain an unbiased insight into the opposite gender. He has published numerous books on the topic, and is considered by many as one of the predominant psychologist on the topic.

This is an article he wrote specifically about the male hormone cycle, I hope you might find it informative.
Right, so a few hours into my hunt for articles I had used in past research, I realized that far fewer of them would cater to your specific request than I had thought. Since most of the manuscripts that get published into psychological journals on male hormones, are studies on how significantly testosterone levels affect this or that observable behavior (libido, aggression, sexism), or linking T-levels to some new behavior (trust, social interaction, facial cues). Additionally, in this age of advancing modern medicine and heightened public awareness on health, much of the research is being directed towards the study of medically induced T-levels opposed to natural.
That being said, I have a few that are vaguely close to your topic of interest, so if you decide you would like to see some of them please let me know. I can most likely provide the study's abstract and/or full research manuscript each.
As an eternal advocate of knowledge, I wish you success in you path towards edification~
You've made a big effort here and I'm very grateful for it, thank you. I'll try to get some books by Diamond, they seem very interesting. I just hope our library at uni is stocked well enough. :) As for those studies you've offered to find for me, I'll have to skip those partially because of my lack of time and also because we get too much of that at uni already. It is awfully kind of you to offer, though.
As for your kind flattery, I am pleased to know that someone appreciates my efforts and is fair enough to apologise even on such a small matter. I must say you're an awesome person and I'm glad we've had this little scientific interaction. :)
So...a woman's period give the woman a lot of hell and a bit of hell to the people around. While a man's periods give hell either only to the people around or only to the man. Damnit, nature.
well excuse me but the hormonal changes in both sexes are not even close to the same level. In females, there' progesteron and estrogen completely overriding each other every month. It's like boiling hot water that suddenly changes to ice cold.
In males, there's androgenes, majorly testosterone. They cannot possibly have hormone changes on the same level as females. Figuratively, tepid water that cools a bit and warms a bit.
Ah well, then. Sorry, I didn't know. I figured it might be around the same levels since a lot of men I know are way more prone to getting angry than the women I know. Well at least our blood gets an extra cleansing every month, so we got that going for us, which is nice.
This fuckin stupid. It is called a menstural cycle. Hormones cause changes in mood. I don't give a shit if a guy peeing a drop of blood and being moody is nothing to put on fun substance. We bleed hardcore every month. We are hardcore.
Ib4 all the girls saying it's not as bad as their periods. Yeah, like it's some sort of competition. Congrats girls you won the contents on having hard periods. Here's a cookie.
And don't say that you get prayed differently because you don't anymore and if try to say different remember this "why hire men when you can hire women and pay them less"

(Also it's *bodies, but I get your point)
