Environmentally smart? Trees are renewable, rocks are not. A rock takes millions of years "growing" (if I remember correctly it's called sedimentation), while a tree just a few months/years.
Kudos for making it less energy requiring and less air polluting though.
Also the whole tear and water resistant is pretty neat. That way, your notes survive the mental breakdown you have before your finals.
