How come that still many people are dying if we already have GMOs? And in the rich countries we throw away so much food, especially the crocery stores do! That's just brainwashing. Monsanto wants you to think like that. They produce GMOs that are infertile, there are no fertile seeds from that plants. You have to buy seeds again from Monsanto in the next year. They are totally profit orientated and many Farmers already killed themselves because of bankruptcy thru Monsanto.
Just because the corporation behind GMOs isn't doing "the right thing" doesn't make GMOs inherently bad. For example, genetically modified "golden rice" has saved thousands of people from going blind in rural Asia
Literally every banana in existence as of right now is gen-mod.
I think almost every watermelon is also as well.
I don't see how you're getting that genmod is inherently a bad thing. Genmod is neutral, it's the applications and the corporations that apply/distribute genmod that may be doing bad.
Genetic modification is VERY different to selective breeding. Selective breeding is how we get today's bananas and watermelons with little to no seeds. GM crop are genetically modified and have been PROVEN to cause infertility in humans, as well as being carcinogens... And there's still debate? If ALL of that guy's corn is ending up like that (which I very much doubt) then obviously he should either grow something else or not grow in a monoculture. My family grows organically, but we grow tons of things together; different plants help one another (keeping away pests). And yes, it's sustainable before you say we "can't feed the planet". If we grow locally, then we can.
We supply an entire town (almost) and there's only four people working (5 if you count me when I'm out of uni visiting). If people say that organic can't feed the world and that GM is the answer, then they've picked up total bullshit. I, unlike some people would like to NOT be infertile and dead by 60 with cancer, which is exactly what non organic and GM are PROVEN to do! Sure, if I were to eat a non organic apple right now, it wouldn't harm me. But when EVERY SINGLE MEAL I eat is filled with GM and pesticides/herbicides, my body is going to be full of a lot of shit.
ily all no matter what you eat, I guess it's kind of a tough topic with the whole thing coming up about not labelling GM anymore. It's basically fraud, and that's unlawful.
Yea my rant's over now go ahead and rip me apart
You are still selecting the traits you want to be passed on while eliminating others thus tweaking the animals genetic structure same for plants, whether it's in the field or the lab it still pans out to genetic modification.
Yes but that's not what people are referring to when you say genetic modification, I really don't want to talk about this anymore I just didn't want you to think you were right
I think nature occasionally doesn't know, how many species have been wiped out since they couldn't survive or compete with other species/environment? We've got the right idea, look at the corn. Would you rather a pest feeds itself, or you?
@born2fly nature doesn't know what it's doing simply the things that gain an advantage breed more and eventually the organism will change through many slight variations in each generation
The European Union and many other countries has banned GMOs. So is it up to American scientists to feed the world with something that hasn't had long term research? Organic agriculture is very sustainable if it had the same goverment funding as big wheat and corn agriculture. It's also better for bees which is a whole other issue.
That's the most bullshit retort to any argument. Using religion to argue a nonreligious point throws you so far onto the losing side that you'd be better off suicide bombing the opposing side.

Magical Thinking (also, the Sin of Presumption):: An ancient but deluded fallacy of logos, that when it comes to "crunch time," provided one has enough faith, prays hard enough, does the right rituals, or "claims the promise," God will always work a miracle at the request of the True Believer. In practice this nihilist fallacy denies the existence of a rational or predictable universe and thus the possibility of any argument from logic. That's the closest logical fallacy I can find at the moment but there is one that describes your exact argument.
People killing each other for money, starving people in africa and food is poored in the ocean, ... Ect
And you are amazed that god created pest.
We are the pest
You have no argument here. Even I'm religious, but you can't just use "God made it for a reason" as an argument. I mean you could but it's an extremely weak argument since the very foundation of the statement depends on faith and not facts.
.
.
that's...not very expensive in the long run?
Bananas, corn, watermelon, oranges...lots of food are genmod and they're better than the originals.
I think almost every watermelon is also as well.

That's exactly how I argue when I realize I'm wrong
