I, a fourteen year old virgin have been called a manwhore. I have never even kissed a person. Explain that. So no, guys don't do that, Jerks do.
I'd also like to add, i don't mind women doing cosplays of scantily clad characters. Some of my favorite cosplays are of Laura Croft, Mileena, Kida, and others. What I absolutely hate is when they take a completely non-skimpy character, like Iron Man for example, and make it skimpy. Don't be "sexy Iron Man", just be Iron Man. And if you do decide to cosplay as "sexy Iron Man", I have every right to criticize if I should choose to do so.
I think what she meant to say is that everyone deserves minimal amount of respect, no matter what they do, who they are etc. and what your opinion of them is. it's just that she was talking about women.
Hey, just thought I'd toss this in there: http://marvel-movies.wikia.com/wiki/Ironette_Dancers
So yeah, sexy Iron Man isn't sexy Iron Man. It's an Ironette, and is actually a cannon-accurate cosplay. The more you know!
I agree and disagree with this. Yes, the boys outcast women when we even attempt to get interested in comics because we think he heros are pretty, and what have you, and it pisses me off when guys get mad at females doing spot on cosplays even though the said character was in a skimpy outfit, so the woman isn't trying to sexualize anything, but at the same time, we do the same thing to guys, when they comment about a female character's sexuality, or etc.
I think we all need to accept people who like the same shit as you. Make like the Pony Fanbase, and Love and Tolerate for gods sake. There's already enough hate in this world, stop making petty ass shit when people like the same things a little differently than you do. If someone likes something, let them like it, don't find fault with it. We're humans for fucks sake, we are not remotely close to perfect. Let people have enjoyment. Amen.
I'm all for letting people like what they want, but this shit #triggers me. Comics were built almost exclusively by white nerdy men for white nerdy men, and 10 years back people like this laughed at nerds, but now that comics got mainstream these people want in just because it's popular. This entire video is just "I don't like it, change it". Trying to please everyone will end in pleasing no one. This is destroying comics. On a side note I've never heard anyone at a comic convention ask "why are there no girls here", dunno what that's about
"Made by white nerdy men for white nerdy men"
That cannot be anymore wrong.
Me as an example. Although I have no comics as of now, I have a love fore such and won't stop. But 1. I am not white. I'm a Native American Haitian teenager who has a prominent interest for comics.
What you just said was stereotypical, racist, and completely idiotic.
Letting people in isn't going to "ruin" the comics like you say. And so what if a lot of people are joining because they're popular. Who knows, they may actually find something they love. It happened to me with The Hunger Games. Even one of my male friends agrees comics and video games need more female fans, because he's tired of all the over-sexualization of women. Expanding a fanbase's horizon isn't going to destroy anything, its going to make the said thing get better, and stronger, and improve with its story line, now that more diverse people can contribute.
Take Wonder Woman for example. When she was made, it was in no way an effort to appeal to men. She was all about woman empowerment. Wonder Woman was made to represent the women who were suddenly finding themselves having to do the jobs of men who were away at war. She wasn't made to be sexy, she was made to be strong. In her original incarnation, she's not even wearing a skirt, contrary to popular belief. The "skirt" is just a pair of really baggy shorts. That way it looks like it could be a skirt, but it's much more practical for fighting. Which is what I will do if you ever try to suggest to me again that comics were only for "white nerdy men".
Serosenpai, read more carefully it says they were made by white nerdy men for white nerdy men, then they became mainstream. It is true, when comics were invented it was only white nerdy men reading them, then it spread to people all over and is now a major thing. It isn't talking about now it is talking about way back when comics were just coming out and were new. Once again it also says "ALMOST exclusively" which means it was entirely exclusive.
Ive probably said this before, and its kind of off topic, but as a straight teenage boy, i have immense respect for girls who can make bright colored hair (blue, pink, purple) look good.
"Express ourselves in a way you don't like..."
In what way? If you wear a costume, people would praise you for having fun, wearing a more showy costume might get you a few calls, but all the same. If you don't, but are still knowledgeable about the comics, good for you!
Nobody says "Why aren't there any girls here?". They know why.
Also, I totally get to decide which women are deserving of my respect. It's called character judgment, dumb bitch.
Double standards are certainly a thing, but she's generalizing all men. Women make the community fun, dressed up or just experiencing everything with the "dudebros"
If it's just a "little boys club", why do you want in? Oh because it's popular now, right? You want to change everything to include yourself. Fuck off and cosplay as Spider-Man you numnut
Dude, I've liked comic books since I was 5. My dad introduced me to them, and I've loved them my whole life. I'm the biggest fan of Green Lantern, which, assuming I should only like things because they're popular, I should absolutely DESPISE. But I love the comics, and was one of those people who freaked out when Supergirl became a Red Lantern (go read that storyline if you haven't btw, it's amazing). I absolutely loved the Blackest Night/Brightest Day saga, and still read it every few months because it's just that good.
TL;DR I'm one of the biggest comic book nerds you'll ever meet, and you can just go take your misogynistic ideas and shove them where the sun don't shine.
