Your logic is not logical. Just because a thing is something does not preclude it from being something else too. i.e Just be Salieri was more successful does not preclude that he was not also jealous of Mozart.

Salieri was more successful than Mozart but was still jealous of the music he was able to write

It would have made more sense if they had put in that Salleri was more successful at that time than Mozart. Most people outside of music nerds have probably never heard of Salleri.
