First make sure 100% that the opossum is dead. Beacuse we had one in our yard once and it did the play dead thing for almost an hour. We tried to get it to move and even poked it with a stick. Nothing it wasn't till my Dad picked it up by its tail and walked over to the trash and he had it over the trash can did it snap out of it freak out try to bite him and run off into the woods.
So yeah do this for sure to save the babies but make DAMN SURE its dead.
Actually,guest does have a point. Your life is worth more than the possible lives of some baby animals. Feel free to risk it if you want,but if you plan on doing this in the future,at least keep some thick gloves in your glovebox,purse or whatever you carry around.
I might be mistaken here but if the opossum is like most mammals those babies will die anyways without their mother, you'd have to take them to a shelter
