As far as I'm concerned, you can be religious and a scientist as long as you don't let your religion alter your interpretation of results, or completely fail to accept scientific facts and theories in favour of holy scriptures. Just because I don't believe in any higher power beyond the Higgs-Boson doesn't mean everyone in the lab has to think the same way. As long as you're a competent scientist, whatever you believe in outside the lab shouldn't matter.
By conveniently ignoring scientific thought within the context of their religion. People who can do this semi-well are incredibly rare, though, seemingly, the pope is actually a pretty good guy for once.
@guest Although science is about facts, people can and do choose to believe or disbelieve based on their personal belief system. Yet it is possible to find some balance and be open to both.
Only Biblical fundamentalists believe everything from the bible actually happened and is history. The rest of us know it was meant to be read as just stories.
Most Christians be lives the creation in Genesis was metaphorical. Example, it says "it was night, then day, the Xth day" but the sun and moon were nor created until the fourth day. How could there have been a night and day without sun or moon?
To elaborate, most believe that the "days" were actually eras, spans of millions of years in which God created and made extinct various animals and then eventually made people.
I'm on board with God creating a universe from it's infancy, complete with natural laws so that everything behaves predictably and is occasionally hospitable and conducive to life.
I do not believe that God plays favorites and creates and makes things extinct upon a whim.
Do you know there is 52 miles 83.686 km

Lesson #1: If you're going to say something, back it up with facts. Now, let's try it again from the top!
Oh, wait...you were trolling. Silly me. How easy it is to forget. Especially people who contribute nothing to the FS community aside from hate and ignorance.
