My family worked many jobs. For my mom cashier at gas station to working clothing stores and so on. My sweet uncle was a repairman, street cleaner, and a garbage man. My Dad was every modern superhero there is fireman, EMT, cop, and so on.
And seeing these people come home looking like they delt with hell and just scraped through has taught me...
YOU RESPECT THE WORKER!
They are there to earn a living these are people who deserve respect. When I am in a store and I know it is 10mins. to closing I don't bitch that there is boxes in the aisles or that the item I ran into the store for is not there. If I am in line at a restraunt and I see it is busy and yet again they got my order wrong I walk over calmly and explain the problem and ask they fix the order. I don't demand to see a manager I ask what the cashier can do.
But if they are rude ass bitichs first than watchout because I am a sweet kitten but kittens got claws.
I'd like to be able to cram this into some people's heads! I deal with way to many immature people at night, and not to mention the ones that bring their child into the store at 3 am let the kid run amok clear a whole 10 foot long shelf onto the floor then leave like nothing happened!

I am so very glad this post includes jobs that are not just retail and fast food employees. I'm so tired of only reading about how important it is to be respectful of these retail workers. How about just be respectful to everyone. I am a teacher. So many teachers get horrible messages from parents when their child is in trouble, not doing homework, or has a poor report card score. Like it's the teachers fault. Maybe be mindful of the person in the suit and tie as well as fast food employees.
This raises a very good point. You punish children when they throw a tantrum, but reward adults for it? Everything else could be put aside and instead, an argument could be made that this logic is simply flawed.
This is another one of those things that Americans think are normal but where the rest of the world looks on in absolute bafflement. Seriously, nowhere else has the punching bag thing nearly as bad as you guys do.
While I agree with this, if you want to be treated with respect in a public facing job, you had better well be fucking competent at what you do.
If you act like an idiot, I damn sure am going to treat you like one. Including calling your manager over and making a scene when you try to charge me nearly $20 for six tacos. Even more especially when the bottom of my food carry box falls out crossing the parking dumping my food on the ground.
If someone in the back office thinks they can get away with lying to the travel coordinator at my home office, thinking the poor schlep at the front desk can deal with it when my team checks in... buddy, I've got news for you. After she finishes with you, your national headquarters is getting a call too.

What if they're new? Newbies who aren't used to the pressures of customer service might mess up their first few days. Are you gonna lose your shit at them?
If I know they are new, no. If they fuck up bad enough and tell me they are new, I'm going to ask for their manager and chew them out. I'll ask them what sort of hateful incompetent prick they are for leaving a fresh trainee alone unattended.
I will make it clear that I'm going to be also contacting their district and/or regional to make sure they don't take out their embarrassment I'm their employee by firing them.
I had someone lose their shit at me yesterday because I told them to have a nice day. A mother tried to get me fired because I made her kid cry because he broke my Keychain and tried to make off with my car Keyes and I snatched them out of his hand
A lady swung her box of food and swear at my manager because they were asked to leave after lying to get free food.

It's walmart policy not to use any accusatory language. Even if I watch you put something in your pocket in front of me, there's nothing I can do except to alert managent
