Depends on who you talk to and in what context. My neighbors are awesome people but if you even hint at politics they act like 16 yr old girls at a Beatles concert. Except replace the Beatles with Trump.

Pleasant is not the same as harmonious. When the doors close and you are no longer face to face that is when that friendly couple talks about how backwards you are. When the nice conservative couple is done telling the gay couple how beautiful their lawn is they go home and vote to ban same sex marriage. It's nothing personal, it's just your lifestyle is an abomination, or your relationship or religion are intolerable. They think your mom is great- it's just she should learn to speak English like you can. When the doors close and other people discuss what it isn't you should be doing behind your own door, that is where the harmony ends. When self interest and self sacrifice cannot find equal values in unequal lives, there will be no harmony. We can all play nice when we have to, they're called manners and aren't the same as acceptance or tolerance.

This is very true, but we can still try, right? We cannot control what other people do, but we can control the way we interact with them and how we think of them when our own doors are closed. Staying away from Big Media as much as possible is a step in the more harmonious direction.

I mostly agree with you that we should try to make connections. The point was one should not confuse congeniality with harmony. Even politicians at war and soldiers are often able to show each other courtesies while plotting the others death or sublimation. Big media is a double edged sword. A potential tool of misdirection and sensationist division, or propaganda. However "social" and small media fall prey to mob mentality and closed values systems. It's up to the individual to use critical thinking and collect information to form a view. The root of harmony of course is in showing each other we are all people and destroying stereo types, I agree there. My point was just as said- harmony and manners mustn't be confused.

It's true, was just at the park and met Carlos; while our kids played we discussed the scourge of Islam and how these nutjobs are ruining the free west.

A big democratic city with immigrants and racists in a true republican state leads to mixed views and terrible times
