If we go along with the story then we do not have enough details to be sure. We could just say that Yahweh decided a preset amount of time that the day would last and later, when he created the sun, synced the sun to said time. Like creating the numbers on a clock and then the... sticky things.
If we go along with what science shows us then the sun was created then bits of matter collected and formed a ball that grew in size due to gravity. We call this ball "Earth". I'd love to go into more detail about the science of the early Solar System and the Bible but I must admit that I put the Genesis Creation Myth according to it's name - as a myth.
tl;dr The Bible is an interesting view into how ancient, primitive humans thought but should never be mistaken as a source of science.
Genesis 1:6-8 may also fit the model that a crystalline structure of water was held above the Earth's spherical surface by electromagnetic forces. It isn't necessarily a dome.
I think the other verses are mostly misinterpreted metaphors, like David's tree may actually represent king Nebuchadnezzar. But I only did frugal research.
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

What was the source of the light if it wasn't the sun, stars, or moon?
And if we already had light and dark / day and night before those heavenly bodies, for what purpose were those created?
I do not know what the source of such light was. What was the source of the energy supposedly produced during the Big Bang?
The heavenly bodies may have been created to show how extravagant, creative, and big God is; to give Him glory.
The source of energy for the Big Bang was Quantum fluctuations. Your idea that a wizard in the sky created the Earth falls short and contradicts all known science.

I like how you immediately respond with a counter question about science, like you assume a christian couldn't ask skeptical questions about the bible
Wait, are you speaking to me @yimmye? I didn't give a counter question about Science. I simply gave a response about the source of energy that could have caused the Big Bang...
As you Christians being skeptical... They aren't. If a Christian read the first book of the Bible with a skeptical, unbiased view then they would immediately see the childishness of it and how inaccurate it is - not to mention how despicable it is.

No sorry, i was referring to @sublimegamer's response to my question, also he was right to assume I'm not a christian, but I do know plenty of christians who do dare to ask questions if things don't add up in their mind
The problem is that a Christian who asks questions that are answered is that they won't be a Christian for much longer. The flaw is that there are people who specialize in lying so as to make the questions seemingly invalid.
I never had a transition phase. For me it was just realizing that God was just like Santa. I find it boggling that I, as a seven year old child, was able to use more logical thought than some adults. At the time I didn't know about Atheism as my family had a "If we don't teach you then we don't have to worry" policy. I was an Atheist almost 5 years before I knew what Atheism was. I have come from that point to an Anti-Theist who sees Christians on the same level as Flat-Earthers. I see the belief in any deity as childish, arrogant, and/or dishonest.

My father became non religious almost exactly the same way as you, because of that I've never believed in any deity
@chakun you skipped a step. What's to say that a god created Earth? We must be sure that there is a god that created the Earth before we decide how long it took him and what his methods were.
Fortunately, faith has no bearings on reality and is not going to convince anyone unless you hammer it into their heads from birth and attack them when their vulnerable. We call that indoctrination and is inhumane. If you tell a 28 year old that there is a magic wizard who causes the weather then he'll laugh at you. But if you tell an 8 year old... He will almost certainly believe, especially if it's his parents telling him.
Evidence outweighs faith and evidence says that Yahweh of the Bible does not exist.
Well I always assumed it works kind of like a computer simulation. God sets the parameters he wants, and then he sits back and the universe mostly creates itself.

Yeah he really regrets telling me to kill off the dinosaurs, those were his favorite.
That's the thing, I don't think God plays all that much of a direct role in our universe. He might step in every now and then, maybe, to correct an error in the universe's "coding" so to speak, like with the meteor and the dinosaurs, but I think he wants us to figure it out for ourselves most of the time. He WANTS us to search for proof of him, he wants us to find him, he wants us to discover incredible things, like ftl travel, or harnessing the power of black holes, he created this universe for us so we can play around in it, make mistakes, and ultimately discover why and how we came to be.
Then you are not a Christian. You're a Deist. Where has anything pointed towards "Magic Wizard"? It seems you are merely making stuff up because it makes you feel good which makes you a liar.

1 Chronicles 16:30
Psalm 104:5
Psalm 93:1
Psalm 96:10
Daniel 4:10-11
All those verses and more speak of a flat Earth within the Bible.
