What's assholeish about it. He's correct. The eclipse happens every two years in locations around the world. The Olympics happen every 4 years in locations around the world. So Eclipses happen twice as often as Olympics.
It's the way he presents himself and the information, this_istnme. He isn't simply being informative. He's being a condescending, know-it-all asshole. He could of simply stated that eclipses happen quite regularly and left it at that. No. He had to put in the "calm yourself" condescending bullshit, as usual. You really should watch him next time he's on an unscripted show. The guy is really full of himself. He's gotten much worse since becoming a minor celebrity.
He's also was an ass to a bunch of university students who paid for him to speak. He's become an arrogant jerk, he was the same way about Leap Day. He thinks he knows it all.
Both Banksy and NDT are the result of a free thinking society. It should be expected that other "Cool" things come along. Maybe the next generation won't get New Kids on the Block, Miley Cyrus or Justin Beiber.
Well I like degrasse he reminds me of what we lost when sagan died and how he can never be replaced by a ass hole. Seems like every time degrasse opens his mouth its just to say im smarter then you im smarter then you. But sagan might simplify thing to make it easier for the nonscientific community and the children but it was still him trying to get us all excited about what's out there and teach us and make us question. degrasse wants us to know how smart and important he is sagan tried to show us how small we all are.and how big the cosmoses is.
People who don't like him seem to go out of their way to find fault with anything he says.
It's especially sad when they take things so hard in text form, where there's lack of tone.
In the end, nitpicking 1% of him and trying stretch that and make him out to be some kind of monster doesn't actually change the remaining 99% of him. Rather, it makes these folks look like anti-intellectual cringelings, trying to force their negativity and ignorance on everyone else.
I think there's a little more than one percent of him to criticize, but yeah, people do tend to use him as a punching bag a little more than is reasonable.
It seems almost like they're trying to dehumanize him, so they don't have to consider his message. Or hell, just plain science.
Must be a pretty sweet deal to enjoy all the joys and conveniences that Science has brought us, while simultaneously denying it out of hand.
I don't see a lot of science denial or dehumanizing in regards to him. There's certainly none of that happening here.
Maybe we peruse different parts of the internet.
While he is right he says it in a very "oh you ignorant swines. Ahahah I'm smart". If he wants to promote scientific awareness this is not how you do it.
Ice cream truck drives pass the neighbourhood everyday, kids still scream and run toward it

FSers are far above that sort of thing... ;)
