Also potatoes don't make statements belittling those they believe to be intellectually inferior mainly because they aren't capable of thought but whatever.
Tbh as an atheist I also think that all religions are just stories made up by people thousands of years ago. On the other hand, some of them are really nice stories. I personally like Norse mythology in general. I don't believe in the gods or the Nine worlds connected by Yggdrasil, but many of the stories are very creative and well done and I enjoy reading them, it's very similar to reading a fantasy book (if I remember correctly Tolkien himself got inspired by Norse, Slavic and maybe also Greek mythology when creating the world and lore of Middle Earth).

Also, I don't insult religious people as long as they don't use their religion to do shitty things to other people. Imo atheists who aggressively push their non-religiousness onto others are just as bad as religious people pushing their religiousness onto others. Just don't be an asshole, that's a doctrine I follow. You may think that religion is just sheep following a doctrine (and in the Middle Ages that was very true as religion was used as population control, but today most modern nations are secular and you can't be persecuted for your religion) but faith helps many people get through really hard times when they might've committed suicide if it wasn't for their faith. Is it just psychological placebo? Probably. But it helped those people, it had a real effect. And again, as long as they're not being assholes about it, why insult them for believing in things?

Yea, the Bible has such nice messages such as how to torture your slave the proper way to rape a woman, how to scam people, how to abusebyyour children, and much more!
Yes,because the Bible is a good way to check morality. We should totally remove women from all positions of power, stop using medicine, and kill all who wear mixed clothing!
@sir_spiderman while it is true that Abrahamic religions have very fucked up stuff in their books like daughters raping their own dad etc., most people who believe in them don't actually follow all this stuff to the letter. In other words, only the good stories survived while the bad ones were forgotten, which demonstrates that humans' morality has changed for the better. Naturally, anyone who claims that we shouldn't wear mixed fabrics or eat shellfish or that the world was created in 7 days is seen as a nutjob and rightly so.
But I was talking about religion in general. As far as I know, writings of Norse, Greek, Roman, Slavic, Eastern etc. religions have more vanilla stuff in them, less murder and rape and more fantasy-like stuff about how the world was created and so on. As I said, stories from a time when people didn't know any better.
@ewqua as a follower of an Abrahamic religion (I'm catholic) i can appreciate your viewpoint. As long as we don't try to tell you how to live your life (don't have sex before marriage, etc), you won't tell us how to live ours (there's no God, all that)
Putting the doubt meme next to it doesn't mean anything. He's right. If you believe in magical sky fairies who committed suicide because his perfect creation wasn't perfect, then you are a fucking lunatic.
Yahweh lives in the sky and does magic. That makes him a magical sky wizard. Jesus is his son, but he is also Jesus. Yahweh killed Jesus (himself) to "forgive" the sins of his perfect creation "humans".
To put it all together, a magical sky fairy who committed suicide because his perfect creation wasn't perfect.
It was the " I am intellectually superior" part that "doubt" was directed at. The fact that you jumped into a condescending rant against religion shows you're probably the same type of pseudo intellectual asshole that's depicted in the picture.
Yes, because your belief in a magical fairy makes you so much smarter by comparison.
I wouldn't call it intellectually superior. Intelligence is being able to understand, smart is knowing things, and clarity is perceiving reality as it truly is. Not being in a sky fairy gives you clarity not intelligence. Of course, it is both the source of not believing and a giver of clarity. Not believing in magic sky fairies allows you to come up with your own ideas and having clarity of thought mean you can see past the bullshit.
Genius is when you are smart, intelligent, and have clarity of thought. Clarity to see past the lies, smarts to have a foundation of knowledge, and intelligence to build that foundation into whatever you need.

I bet if you met a God of any kind you'd tell them, to their face, that they didn't exist.
If I met a god, then I'd ask my brother what he put in the weed.
Seriously though, if I met a god, then I'd assume it was a hallucination. It would take quite a bit of evidence. Even a hundred people seeing me talking with him isn't enough due to mass hysteria(delusion). And even then it's more likely that it is just some rich dude trying to be funny.
But let's say that it is, undeniably, a god. So? I would never worship Yahweh - I couldn't. He is so idiotic, so evil, and so disgusting that I would spit in his face before bowing my head. Even at the threat of eternal torment, I couldn't. He is supposedly all-knowing, so he would know that I am simply faking worship.
Luckily, there is absolutely no evidence for a god, so this hypothetical conversation could only happen in fairy tales. Want me to believe in a god? Prove a god exists, prove which god he is, and then prove that his values line up with whatever values it's holy book or representatives say. Then prove that he is worthy of worship.
But humans have been trying to prove a god's existence for the entirety of human life, which evolved several million years ago, and so far they haven't gotten anywhere.
Also I KNOW that the Christian god isn't real. Because the Earth isn't fucking flat and the stars aren't bits of paint on a fucking ceiling. The entire first page of Genesis is so fucking wrong that I lose my voice just trying to list all the things on page one.
It applies to all gods but, as the most popular religion among supposedly educated countries is Christianity, using Yahweh is the best near universal example - particularly since it also applies to Islam as well with just a few minor changes.

Wait, so being intellectual is more important than respecting someone's beliefs, some of which shape societies' fundamental morals?

Let's take a non-mainstream God like Odin or hell even Akatosh
I'm not saying I support or condone the bullying of this fart stain... ...but I understand.

Because the most common theme is "Zeus you horny bastard".
