Axolotls have horrible eyesight, they're nearly blind. They usually need to be hand fed with tweezers and you really gotta wave the food around for them to notice it.
Well that's only partially true. Axolotls are hyperopic, so everything close to them gives them sort of trouble. Objects far away can be seen pretty well, this is caused by the curvature of their eye lenses, which would be working better for land-living animals. And they are pretty curious, Axolotls love surveilling their owners from the aquarium.
