True, but the protagonist in "Gone girl" "Lolita" "American Psycho" and more are not heroes, arguably villains. Being the protagonist doesn't make one a hero.
I am legend? Mmmm... 50/50. While they removed the overt ending spelling out that he's a villain by specifically showing the creatures capable of higher thinking- we still have all the hints left leading. Towards that ending through the movie. The only thing we don't have is proof they speak or proof they aren't acting on instinct, but we do have evidence they are intelligent. So in the latest movie I'd say it's open to interpretation, much as one could interpret wether a "scoundrel" character like Mel Gibsons Porter in payback is a hero or not. I suppose that distinction is up to the viewer.
I especially like the idea that Wakanda is the “most technologically advanced country in the world” when in reality every civilization in Africa has been severally inadequate. Disney sure knows how to make a whole continent and it’s descendants forget that besides middle easterners in North Africa, there hasn’t been a significant structure built or invention in thousands of years. And handing back control to the native populations gives you the Johannesburg debacle.
I never said Disney made wukanda anf wukanda is the richest and most technically advanced civilisation on the planet because it has the world's largest vibranium deposit on the planet and 1 pound of vibranium sells for i think 10 million so they're super rich, with their vast wealth and ridiculous amount of ridiculous super metals they traveled the world and learnt everything, like basically everything and improved on it. They can fund infinite research and keep it hidden from every government and they have kept their actual location a mystery for centuries, and fortified it to near impenetrable levels of ridiculous
Much of modern Africa is developed and wealthy. Also- In true parallel universe fashion Wakanda is obvoiusly relatively untouched by outside interference. Just like real life Africa Wakanda has a valuable natural resource. I suspect that if in the fictional universe wakanda had been forcibly occupied and then forced to sell vibranium to foreign governments for a small fraction of its market value they may not be as advanced or wealthy. It's harder to be rich when people steal your most valuable resources.
Same also south Africa is pretty just below standard our only problems are, xenophobia, corrupted governments, high crime rates and all other kinds of social problems but otherwise we're not far behind in anything (except Internet is damn slow and super stupid expensive with bad customer service), it's why most people here find massive success overseas not because they aren't qualified or behind in skill but because the industry isn't as strong and the social/economic environment here is pretty tough so it's easier and safer to seek fortune elsewhere.
This is so funny actually..
The movie actually propagates Nationalism, Anti-Globalism, Anti-Diversity, etc etc
Everything that the same black community doesn't agree upon..
That's what I find hilarious as well. T'Challa himself is like a Trump supporter's wet dream... and Killmonger is the uber SJW boogeyman...
I think this movie is going to make a lot of people consider some stances, while also having a good time. For that? Niiiice.
I'm thinking he may have meant "first positive portrayal of a black super hero" as pointed out, there have been lots of black heroes, but few main black super heroes. Blade and Hancock were two headlining block buster black heroes but Hancock was obviously not a great role model, and blade wasn't a terrible hero- but he is somewhat an anti hero. Born to a "drug addict" mom as introduced, growing up without a dad, and possessing little beyond "killing vampires, being stoic" blade can't be called a positive hero per se.
Oh wow, Ben Shapiro the "intellectual" trying to make a point about movies. That'll show the pesky SJWs!
On the other hand, this is probably his first post without a logical fallacy.
Someone who appreciates the (sad) truth of Africa
Also wukanda is fictional
