I don’t know, it’s seems stupid but then I think of people dressed in Halloween costumes of stuff from my own culture and it kind of sucks. People that get offended for other people is ridiculous though

The problem I have with people who try to adopt a certain culture is that, they just do it for the sake of looking good. They treat an entire culture as an accessory. If you want to adopt or follow a certain culture then first of all, respect it. Secondly, study as much as possible about it. Get immersed in it. That is called properly following an another culture.
Though some people do take that TOO far. Like some people will think you shouldn't be allowed to wear kimonos if you don't know the entire history of the Japanese textile industry.

That's just overreacting. But, if you are wearing a Kimono then, know it's importance in the Japanese culture, know what it stands for, etc. Don't disrespect the culture. That's all I ask.
Recently there was a photoshoot done by Vogue INDIA, yes, stress of India. In this photoshoot they took Kim K and took her pictures of wearing sarees. The sarees looked like fucking frocks and dresses. What's the point of it? I have no problem if you wanna take Kim K to represent Vogue India, even though there are literally lakhs of models out there but, what's with those frocks?
If it's just fashion though, there's usually no significance. Like turbans and hijabs have religious significance, bindis and henna have religious significance as well but it's also used just for fashion in India, and kimono, yukata, and sarees are just what the fashion was in a certain area. It's like if people had to know the significance of a corset or doublet before going to a renaissance fair. There's no actual significance to it.

Yes. But that fashion is also the culture. Not separate. And it is a traditional thing now. You need to know about them.
When you go to a foreign place, you learn their language and traditions and respect them, don't you? Same is with the culture. You are following a new culture then know about it and respect it.
It's part of the culture, but lots of things are part of culture. Architecture, food, media.
You don't have to completely immerse yourself in it to enjoy a part of it.
Yeah when you go to a place you at least learn the language and customs because they shouldn't have to cater to you, but you don't need to learn the entire history. Even in my own culture I don't know the history or more than the basic surface info of some stuff, and I won't expect someone who moves here to learn the history of jeans before they can wear them or not allow them to eat soul food if they don't know recipes or the culture around it. It's too much work to enjoy something that's simply meant to be enjoyed or used with no deeper meaning.

That's my exact point. At least know that culture to a point where you don't look pretentious person who is disrespecting the culture.
@spookykink57 the "frocks and dresses" you're talking about were not sarees. Some of the looks were different styles of traditional dress called lehengas, and some of them were actual dresses, with Indian embroidery. Both of these are common in India, and not every traditional look is a saree. also, vogue is a high fashion magazine that showcases designers who add modern details to their clothes. The dresses Kim wore were typical of what Indian models wear in magazines. It's not disrespectful, since Indian designers chose to style her that way. Not every outfit from India is a saree.
"Decolonize our Museums" Are they really that moronic? That's literally the point of museums. To showcase art to allow everyone to see it. There are museums that specialize specific collections but generally they try to incorporate art from all different regions and periods. This is to allow those who will probably never get the chance to travel the chance to see it. That's why you always hear such and such was "on loan" from someplace for this exhibit. I think Samuel Clemens hit it on the nose when he said “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”
