respect is borrowed on first impression and is very easily retrieved by the owner at any time in the future.

On first interactions, I neither respect, or disrespect people. You don't have to 'respect' anyone to just be a decent person towards them.

being a decent person to someone is showing them respect. There isn't an in between space between respect and disrespect. Its one or the other.

No, respect is going above just being decent. I might wave at some random person when they wave at me, and I might smile at them, but I don't know them, and have nothing to base any respect on. But, say I knew a veteran, who had saved hundreds of lives. I would have utmost respect for for them, and treat them as my superior.

But the phrase "I respect women" doesn't mean I respect all women, it means I am capable of respecting women. If you say "I eat ice cream" it means that you eat ice cream on occasion and that it's a part of your life, it doesn't mean that you eat all ice cream all the time.
