You ever want to see a great actor. Go to the store and talk to someone who's worked customer service for years but still treats the customers as best as they can. It's a face you put on and have had years of practice developing but still take off the second you leave your job and are out of the customers view.
I've been in retail since 2002. I've mastered that face.

Service industry for somewhere around 12 years now (at the same time as going to school), and yeah, this is accurate. Though I think you get to this point after two or three.
I worked for Wal-Mart for a winter season. I even wrote about my experience in it in a blog called Customers of Derp-Mart. Comparing my early blog posts to my last really shows just how angry you get at customers and management.
Management can make it 10x worse. It's bad enough if the customers are abusive, abrasive, over-friendly, or just stupid, but if your superiors never have your back or act the same, it turns it into an absolute stress-pit
