Actually she is officially a Disney Princess, by the standards they go by. Personally, I agree, she's a warrior, daughter of a peasant who still managed to do more for her people than most actual princesses, but according to Disney, she IS a princess.
Please, I've seen the matpat videos. Mulan may be a "princess" but she ain't no princess, princess. I don't doubt that she's a badass, and tasteful role model, but technically not a princess
Like I said, obviously, it makes no logical sense, but Disney has their own definitions on things. Literally one of the requirements is their movie had to be a financial success.
I think we need to do away with the princess shtick and just focus on the Disney girls/women. Megara wasn't a princess, Esmeralda wasn't a princess, Mulan wasn't a princess, and they're all some of the most badass women in the franchise. Meanwhile you have Kida, who IS a princess, but got tossed to the wayside.
Mulan isn't a princess
She's a warrior which is way better than a princess
She didn't sing with the birds and think about her happiness, she defeated the Hun and saved freaking China
Please, I'd pick Mulan over any princess
She very much did sing about her happiness (Reflection), it was just also about how what makes her happy makes her a disappointment to her family and society
Either way, agree, she's a badass. Aurora's great accomplishment in life is meeting strange men in the woods, and passing out. Admittedly that's better than the real fairytale happenings, but still doesn't stack up much to Mulan.
Also, kind of wish they'd find a way to turn Khutulun into a disney story, but I imagine that'd be tricky.
I feel like the Disney princesses get an unnessecarily bad rep, especially the older ones. Ofcourse Mulan is a total badass warrior and that's a great thing to be but it's also great to be a genuinely kind human being who stays positive no matter what happens like Cinderella does. Just because she's not badass in the same way as Mulan doesn't mean she's not totally badass. Kindness may not be as loud as bravery but it's still important. Princess isn't a bad word.
