How was this illegally refuelling? It's off-shore and in international waters.

was going to say same, it's not illegal to refuel, and the whaling is debatable

They are illegally whaling in international waters. That's the point. They have been repeatedly told to stop by the UN but they don't care because they feel it's their right because of "tradition".

And....nobody can prove they're incorrect. And they were legally refuelling. They should have sunk the Barker and said Whoops.

i know whaling is considered illegal by the UN, but to them, it's just normal, why i said debatable, but it's something that shouldn't be done, but like a lot of things, it still happens

Its not debatable. It is illegal to whale in international waters, simple as that. And as for sinking the Barker, wow, so they so risk killing hundred of crew because they are preventing them from continuing their illegal trade. You definitely sound like you have a bright future ahead of you in any organized crime syndicate. But guess what, that exactly what they tried to do, despite the Barker not trying to ram them, or make any contact, simply getting in the way. The whaler repeated rammed them. Not that it did any good. Btw, the Bob Barker's sister ship is the Steve Irwin, which they also targeted for sinking and failed at.

No it's not. It's not illegal to whale in international waters if your sovereign does not consider itself bound by laws which would restrict your doing so. Simple as that.

@celticrose While I abhor the idea of whale hunting, if you're in international waters and trying to block another ship from refueling, then you're actually in violation of the law because you're putting the other crew at risk. Leave the patroling to the military, not to the civvies.

Unfortunately there's not enough military to do that patrolling. And if civvies don't do something soon we are going to be looking at a world without a lot species. Which laws here have precedent? Why are the refueling more important than stopping the whaling? The whaler had enough fuel to get home, just not to continue hunting, which was the point. They made it back safe, despite ramming the Barker, and I believe the Steve Irwin.

Somebody named a boat after the Price is Right guy?

Bob Barker is a big supporter of the conservationists and funds a lot of their efforts, so yes, they have named a ship after him.

What if the collision ruptured the fuel tank of either ship, and oil spill happened? Won't that make the opposite of saving the planet?

The Barker didn't instigate a collision, they got in the way, like playing monkey in the middle but not. The Maru did infact attempt repeatedly to ram the Barker in retaliation though.

It’s illegal to interfere with the navigation of ships at sea.

They aren’t navigating (at the time of interception), they’re refuelling. The ships are allowed to navigate wherever they want as long as no illegal activities are conducted

And hunting endangered/protected species os illegal

Fuck the UN; they dont get to tell us what we can do. That said, killing whales is buttfuckingly retarded. If these fags would just SHOOT the whalers, maybe they'd get the point and quit.

The authorities protecting endangered species in Africa have instated a shoot on site policy with poachers to protect the rhino. You wouldn't even need to get that extreme here. Just board them and scuttle the ship after grabbing all the dudes off of it. Slap a huge fine on their face and eventually with enough manpower being thrown at it whaling wouldn't be profitable anymore

That's silly, they should have just refueled legally and kept hunting.

Only do illegally what you must do illegally. Harder to get caught if 99% of your existence is on the straight and narrow

bro if anything most starving children are in africa and the minute we try to help them it gets worse because the rebels and governments nearby are so corrupt they either intercept it or if they cant do that they roll up and kill everybody and take whats left.

also feeding them leads to them reproducing and a generation later we have that many more starving people to feed because they don't feed themselves
