allow me to point our that men (also) have very obvious and laughable double standards: they shame women with fake eyelashes, boob jobs etc AND deem flat-chested women who don't wear makeup ugly.
#what#do#men#want #(besides anime cat-girls which is a totally the most realistic concept ever)
Double standards exist everywhere because idiots exist everywhere we just have to deal with it and take solace in the few decent people we can actually find in this world
I’m rather tired of the “double standards” catch phrase used on gender issues incorrectly. A double standard is when you apply the same rule unequally. Like saying that it is a double standard that women who wear fake eyelashes and have breast implants don’t date men with fake eyelashes who have breast implants. Many of these things people like to call “double standards” are not. They are separate standards- the way that a man who loves his full beard and rippling muscles and large penis might not want a woman with those things. Many of the things we prize in each gender are different. Men look for certain things that most women do not in a man and vice versa. The existence of genders already suggests the fact there are enough differences to warrant a classification system. Also- as an asides- “real” in this context applies to either being genuine in nature and deed, or in conformity to a given gender ideal, not anatomy. people with “fake” limbs are no less real than a person without.
I think double standard works in this case because even if he’s pointing out individual things he’s basically saying women completely change what they look like and in turn show a fake self to the world and still expect to find real men. It would be the same even if a girl who doesn’t even look like 10% of her real self was dating another girl that looks completely gorgeous with no makeup. You can’t be completely fake and still demand to get someone naturally gorgeous. If it happens it’s great but if you expect it then it’s a double standard. What you just mentioned I think would be hypocrisy - I have big boobs and fake lashes but I don’t want to date someone with big boobs or fake lashes.
I’ll answer this in 2 parts. The first will address the issue at hand. Imagine a woman who had undergone plastic surgery and puts all these “fake” things this man describes on her body- do you think that in general that woman would complain if her man put “fake” things on? If he was balding and got good hair transplants, got veneers for his teeth, Botox for wrinkles, or dye for his graying hair, maybe a spray tan? Would she complain if he had a tattoo and say he wasn’t a real man? The first major point is that “real man” seldom ever refers to a man who doesn’t have changes to his appearance genetics didn’t provide. It refers to a perception of character and attributes. Second point- it isn’t a double standard because many rich and famous men and women have all sorts of procedures done, or use various substances like steroids to achieve a physique. Do you think The women close to these athletes who get busted weren’t aware their partner was using? Men like Jose Canseco’s parteners...
... are so dumb and so in involved in their spouses lives that they don’t onow they are using something? They notice none of the side effects, possible behavior changes, the fact their bodies make drastic changes quickly- athletes who have trained for decades suddenly breaking some wall they couldn’t for most of their lives and putting on lean muscle while eating like dump trucks? The changes to their training, lifestyle, and diets? Or do they roll with it because it gets them what they want? by and large I’d say the latter. Having known and dealt with many such cases it is usually a partner who notices first. But many of the changes are desirable, at least for a while.... and the most vane and superficial of people tend to want such vanity and concern with outward looks in a partner- so I would say no. It is not a double standard under those considerations, even IF male and female beauty standards were identical.
Lastly- Not quite no. A hypocrite is one who claims to hold to a standard but does not. If someone says that they hate racism, and then makes a racist remark- that is hypocracy. It only becomes a double standard if they expect others to not make similar remarks but expect no consequences if they do. Hypocracy and double standards can be the same- a judge who drinks heavily passing a law forbidding others to drink because they say only morons drink- that could be both. But one can exist without the other. someone who likes one thing but has another is by default not a hypocrite unless they expect that all people who posses their own attributes are somehow lacking- yet consider themselves not lacking. Of course- they could also be detached from reality or have unrealistic self image. The points stands though. It is not a double standard or hypocracy unless the woman in question would turn a man away for “enhancing” his appearance beyond the confines of what genetics and lifestyle gave.
Double standard is simply applying a different set of rules to a inherently similar situation and that is for sure what is being done here we never leave the realm of aesthetics in people. The statement is that women want to be able to wear makeup and get breast implants and still have a man who got all that he has naturally. While I agree with you that this happens very rarely I’d still say that it’s a double standard when it does
Uhg. 1. For the last time- “real man” as a colloquialism has NOTHING to do with a man’s being natural or not. A woman may qualify a man as “real” who has prosthetic limbs, tattoos, dental implants or veneers, hair dye, piercings, plastic surgery, fake tans, etc. in fact, the most vain of people will almost require any perceived fault which can be “enhanced” through artificial or other means be addressed. The concept of “real man” refers to character and behavior, or perception and is based on an individual woman’s views and not a standard held by all women. Think for one second. Do you picture a woman with lip injections, Botox, fake breasts, fake lashes, contacts, face lifts and tummy tucks- is she with a “natural” male with a bald gray head and a huge guy covered in hair, or a man with hair plugs and color, neck tuck, face lift, Botox, veneers, tummy tuck etc? As a generality? Vanity seeks vanity in most cases because most people who put that much emphasis on looks put emphasis on...
... the way others look and how their partners appearance “reflects” on them. In less extreme cases, a woman who wears some make up and nails once in awhile, or she got breast implants for her own reasons- there is no difference between her and any other woman other than a cosmetic procedure. Most dental procedures are cosmetic. Who is above that? More so- on the concept or idea of a woman wanting only an “all natural man,” as I say- tattoos are not natural, cars and homes are not plucked from vines. If most women met a guy with a magic ring that could make money do you think they’d complain it wasn’t natural? Some yes- most people regardless of gender likely wouldn’t be too upset by that though. It’s not about being “natural.” “Real man” refers to a person who to thek exemplifies certain gender traits. It is not a double standard or hypocrisy that a heterosexual doesn’t want to mate with someone who adheres to gender traits socially ascribed to their own gender.
I've actually worn those before. I got them as part of a cosplay and for Halloween, although I did wear the first pair out of the house a couple of times just for fun.
'
If you don't get them specially calibrated to you and/or buy a very expensive pair, they're not particularly comfortable, obscure your vision, and anyone paying any amount of attention can usually pick up something's off after a short while. I assume the lack of visible pupil dilation is a giveaway.
'
Then again my pair was an amethyst color that, while achievable in humans, isn't particularly common
Honestly I’ve never met a woman who wouldn’t date a man who did the male equivalent of these things. Imo most of the time when women say they want a ‘real man’ they want someone mature
Also women have pressure to look good where men do not, like how women are more likely to be hired in interviews if we wear makeup. And from my experience, the bar for an attractive woman is much higher than the bar for an attractive man. And while plenty of men don’t care about these standards, plenty of others perpetuate them and then turn around and say they want a “natural” woman... as long as she’s hairless, with 3 inch long eyelashes, boobs up to her chin, a flat stomach, and long straight hair. And they’ll mock women who don’t meet the minimal acceptable standards.
