Hurr durr I'm an intellectual who argues which brand of phone is better.
(seriously guys, it's a phone. how about you argue about more important stuff.)
1 random point of interest: the storage on the iPhone is of better quality to that of most other devices. It's moderately faster loading than the type used in other phones.
There are obvious file structure and protocol differences between most Apple and windows devices, but the componetry and architecture are also different. That is why you can take an Apple computer which had what by PC standards would be inferior specs and bench mark it at performance levels of a PC with higher specs. I’m not saying the Apple stuff is better- I’m saying it’s different. And while Apple devices can be hacked etc- there is a level of security when one stays in the Apple sphere of programs and hardware which the more versatile windows based environment lacks. I’ve built PC’s that run Mac OS, I’ve ran Linux and PC software on Apple hardware (without a virtual machine), each case had pros and cons as do vanilla hardware/software systems. It’s just a case of what works best for a person and an application. The android stuff I work on at work... it has all sorts of quirks. Software that comes loaded on a handheld unit default and conflicts to the OS level. 19 different ways....
... to tell it to do the same thing, each programmer chose one they liked, each program is designed around a totally different set of specs and other programs and so they often conflict each other. If we used Apple hand heads- we wouldn’t have that problem but we also wouldn’t have the choice and versatility that we needed. That’s the blessing and curse of each, and for a given purpose and person they’ll decide for themselves what is the best for them. So I don’t get the whole rivalry thing. It’s technology- it’s like arguing a diesel heavy duty pick up truck is better than a minivan. At what? For who? It’s hard to take 10 kids on a field trip in your duelly and the minivan doesn’t do so well towing or hauling a ton of gravel. Not everyone needs a mini van or a full sized sedan or a truck. Options exist so people can get what works for them.
The bots have wants now? They are evolving. Well... at the point they start to have wants I’m not even sure we should count them as bots. I mean, humans are technically biological machines, and the whole sentience amd consciousness thing has never been pegged down. The best we really have is that if it seems to process information as we do and seems self aware it probably is. So if the boys have begun wanting, I can’t treat them like they aren’t life forms. That which can want can be disappointed. It seems cruel at that point to rob them of purpose.
I can’t argue against your facts. It is a bit interesting to hear discussion of things like what rights and courtesies to give machines when we haven’t even got it right with humans yet. But I can say I disagree with the conclusion. It would seem to me that the answer isn’t to treat an emerging AI as poorly as we already treat each other, but to treat each other better. If Jim beats his wife, then I wouldn’t say “sure, he should beat the kids too...” I would say Jim should stop beating his wife.
If you’ve spent a decade trying to convince people that your platform is just as good as theirs, I think we know what the superior platform is. It’s like an R32 vs a Ferrari, some people have the means and want quality; other people are poor and want comparable performance on a budget.
I dunnoh, I have to agree. People are still buying iPhones. The debate continues. If the android/windows phones really were so superior... then Apple is literally just in business based off fan boy cronies and idiots? When so many people in the tech sector- even leaders and innovators, are using the product, I have to imagine it isn’t so straight forward. What’s more, anyone with wisdom will tell you that comparing specs/features/price on paper isn’t a clear indication of a better product. Firstly it’s called marketing. Manufacturers are very good at including the things that get people’s attention. Pick almost any item made by a reputable brand and well regarded. Then buy a random eBay knock off that has the same or better specs and features listed. Maybe it’s better- or maybe it’s just not. Maybe you notice where corners are cut and maybe you don’t. And at the end of the day, do I care what features an item has if the one with less features has all the ones I’ll actually use?
