Same here in Michigan. This state is a barren wasteland.

Atleast you guys have cities within a 2 hour trip, when I went through Ohio, I fell asleep looking at farm fields...and woke up to farm fields. It was hell and I live in Kansas!
There's definitely a lot of corn fields and wind farms, but Iowa isn't that bad as a whole. The traffic isn't terrible and it's easy to navigate for the most part. Plus crime isn't a huge issue for the most part. It's just boring is all. And boring is kinda nice when you're a bit of an introvert.
It's easy to navigate because most of the roads follow a grid, the signs are clear and traffic isn't usually enough of an issue that you can't take the right exit.
Why do people hate States just for being boring? I get that you wouldn't want to come to Iowa as a tourist, but I don't understand the hate.
Like maybe not, but I live in central Iowa. And we get plenty of weed here without the cops knowing. Like, you may not know the key to smuggling weed through Iowa, but I know that lots of people must because there is plenty of weed here. In fact most of the notable crime in my town is drug trafficking.
And the only time I've ever heard of someone getting caught with weed, they were either being very stupid, were breaking some other law, or were actively high in public. And I know plenty of people who have weed at home and take it with them ppl laces without a problem just because they understand how to do so without getting caught.
Its actually really simple to avoid the cops. There are few major highways. Take the alternative routes. Don't drive while high. Don't break other traffic laws. Drive a car that isn't an obviously shit car (I know that one is harder for some) and (I know this isn't fair) if you are a minority travel with people who are not.
I just go around Iowa... just like I go around Oklahoma. It's not about getting caught as much as it's about potential penalties for getting caught. Risk mitigation.
Cleveland has some buildings (I'm typing from Key Tower right now). Columbus is pretty cool. But yeah the rest of this state sucks. Thank God OP could keep their eyes open.
Uh, Dayton, Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Miami, on and on? I'm not saying it's a beautiful place but there's a large population here, how the hell did you miss it?
Like... idk... would you call some dust from a rocky stone desert eroding "sand"? I mean, a lot of it is actually covered in beige-colored grasses, with pines popping up as your elevation increases. Flagstaff, for example, is surrounded by a pine forest. >_> I know I'm just being a stickler, but.... well I like being a stickler, kay? lol
Continuing this spiral of literal examination, I consider sand, as far as inland sand and not ocean sand, to be the result of erosion. Not like soil, which is mostly decayed organic matter. Now, Arizona has lots of vegetation, but the deserts, like the Sonoron and the Mojave and others, do occupy a lot of square mileage, and they do have a lot of sand blown into the urban areas and their forests. That's what makes Arizona so dangerous, is that the sand worms could be anywhere.
I could be wrong but isn't it the other way? I mean sand under other geological layers can bond into new things but for practical purposes I would think the pebble would become sand, as a pebble is an eroded rock. Surely there's a proper geologist on FS that could give us a bunch of formulas and names that we can't understand
Geologically, speaking, yes. I'm just talking about size. I can be the geologist. "Sand" would compact into sandstone, which would be a sedimentary rock. The thing about sandstone though, it erodes FAR quicker than most other sedimentary rocks... which erode faster than metamorphic rocks.
Granted, the rate of erosion also has many more factors, such as location.
Do you think that, as bad as humans are eating these days, there will ever be a desert of kidney stones? I had one that was so large it had to be surgically removed, and I'd like to think that staghorned bastard is pulverized and dusted across the land
Anyway, in all cases, sand is evil... it gets everywhere and it spreads... Like... you can still find grains in weird places weeks or even years later. I bet if I go look at a few pairs of my Jordans, I'll find sand from when I wore those shoes in Cali nearly a decade ago.
@thekaylapup easy to navigate because there's only two fucking roads XD

In any case, at what point does dust become sand? At what point does sand become a pebble? <_ <
