when i was younger, i was reading alone in the house, our cat started making this really loud meow cause she thought she was alone and no one was around. I was reading on the floor behind a chair, I called for her, and she made this small excited meow and ran to me, then just cuddled with me while i read. Was a beautiful cat, miss her even though it's been more than 25 years
My female cat used to do that all the time. More when she got older and started losing her hearing. And she had one hell of a voice box. It was somewhat less endearing when she'd randomly decide to "kill" something, which consisted of her finding a random object (usually my slipper) somewhere, biting it very hard, and then dragging it around while she let loose these guttural meows that sounded like she was being possessed by Satan. Considering she'd do this randomly you never knew when to expect it and it could be quite disturbing to hear all of a sudden
My Dad's cat Coujo who I named my cat Couji coo after could talk. My Dad's cat had several words.

Lol he had a few others I forget all but he Total broke the no talk rule of animals lol.
He would sit on my Dad's nightstand Pat my Dad's nose to wake. The whole time saying "Dad" in a paniced voice than once he woke he say over and over "Dad Out! Dad Out!" But he would say out like OwwghTah lol
My cat is VERY talkative, especially if he wants cuddles or to play.
He so far learned to recognize quite a few words, aka he knows when we're talking about him, he recognizes words such as cat, kitty, sweety, ball of fur, etc.
The weird part is, when he wants my attention - he calls me MOM. Even though we've never taught him that word! He doesn't use that kind of meow with anybody else, and it always sounds perfectly like MOM. Even people who've never been to our house before and hear him say it for the first time go 'WTF? he called you mom??'
He also says HEWO? when meowing at other cats outside the window. It's hilarious XD
