Nice idea- not practical. It’s “not nice” to turn someone down for a job- it sucks. They want the job, they likely need a job. But- WHY did you turn them down? Was it because they weren’t qualified? Someone was more qualified? We’re they rude? Or was it gender or sex or other discrimination? The point of highlighting discrimination isn’t to “call out” divisions of people. It’s not in an act itself. Telling a black guy he unqualified to be an accountant isn’t racism if he isn’t- telling him something you wouldn’t say to the same person if he wasn’t black is. Yes. People shouldn’t shoot other people- but why they did it is important. Shooting someone who was goin to rape you might be seen as justified or less severe than shooting someone who chews loudly. The motivation behind an “unkind act” not only helps determine if it was justifiable, but also if you intended malice or if any harm was unintended or collateral damage. It also helps us prevent and deter future cases of such unkindness
@vitklim- As memegirl says- favoritism or illusion of is an important factor- but another is this- very few people enjoy being offended. Likely closer to nine- even if some enjoy picking fights or other things that can come from seeking offense. While everyone is offended at different things I’ve never met someone who truly could be offended by nothing, you can always say or do something that will bother a personal sensibilities unless you’re dealing with someone who has absolutely no morals or and convictions or beliefs. So if we know it’s pretty universal that people do not like to be offended- why would we seek a system where we offend everyone as opposed to a system where we attempt to minimize offense. Not eliminate- we can’t do that. As a practical matter some things will offend people and we can do nothing about it- but it’s those things we CAN do something about that we should try to, since we likely don’t want to be offended either.
When someone calls me racist, sexist or any type of those stuffs
I simply reply "it'd be better for you if I were, but no, it's not about your race or whatsoever, it's about you. Even if you suddenly turned white/black/Asian/etc, you're still a piece of crap."
