Wholesome stuff happens in war every day. Someone realizes the “enemy” is just another person, struggling to survive the mess they go themselves into. Americans are straight up lied to...you don’t fight for freedom of your country over overseas if there is no war at home. That makes no sense. There is no peace these days, but peaceful people at heart like Franz exist, and that helps.
Yes. In fact a staggering number of shots fired by the infantry miss as well, and early on in modern war they discovered even getting every soldier in a fight to even fire their weapon was a rarity. There is a part of most mentally healthy humans that recognizes another human and doesn’t want to hurt them. Consciously or subconsciously that is why so many shots miss. This is a large part of why during most conflicts propaganda is used to dehumanize the enemy, paint them as evil in every way, point out differences, even liken them to animals or insects. To try and build a subconscious thought that you aren’t hurting a person but something less than human. The Nazi’s went out of their way to refer to the Jewish and other ethnicities as “untermensch”- sub humans. It makes it easier for us to hate and do terrible things to each other when we don’t see others as human- and it’s a strong caution against the labels and divisions we see used in the world today.
Hi Guest. Franz would have been immediately shot for not following orders. The reason the Americans would have been ordered not to talk about it , would be to continue the bombing of the evil demons instead of people. Puma , Germany declared war on the United States to honor their pact with Japan. In general, all governments lie.
I agree . I don't understand all the ragging on the USA about WW2. I can see the reason for the last few Presidents being made fun of and disliked. The USA lost almost as many airmen over Germany as the Marines lost on some of the bloodiest Japanese held islands. This is one of the good stories of a horror able conflict .
Lol. Don’t get me started. War is seldom pretty. Total war over like 3/5ths of the world.... people died. Not every soldier or every politician or every person always did things that were saintly or that we judge as “right.” Those things happened on all sides as they do in war. But it really fries my
Bacon the way people try to rewrite history because they don’t like America right now, or because they want to compensate for how much media and historical attention was given to US involvement in the war over other countries who made large contributions but get less attention for them. You don’t sell short the memory of those brave souls who fought in the past because you’re pissed off at their kids. That’s low.
An argument could be made that you don't want that kind of enemy plane to ever fly again, but I think there were like 10000 B-17s produced or something, so meh.
Maybe the German already realized that war was lost. The crew is by far more valuable than a massed produced aircraft . Traing the crew takes along time. Usually, you want the enemy crew dead or captured. That same crew could have been bombing the Germans hometown the next day. I did see a news article where the Yank pilot and Krout pilot met up and Franz came to New York to vist his friend in the hospital.

They were no longer a threat and for that, there was no need reason to take action.
