Yeah, Disney is posturing. Note how vague and hypothetical the statement is.
However, lots of people who have a choice are going to refuse to work in Georgia, and Disney and Netflix may find they just can't make films there, tax incentives or not.
I mean- they are weasel words. “Find it difficult?” Most judges find passing life or death sentences “difficult.” “Difficult” doesn’t mean you won’t do it- it doesn’t mean you will even be that torn up about it- might even enjoy it. “Gee sibling- having an affair with your spouse was difficult on me...” Oh? Maybe so. But not so difficult that you didn’t do it- or stopped doing it. Many of us have “difficult” jobs or lives- it may be “difficult” to leave even an unhealthy relationship. “Difficult” means jack shit here. How’s it going to be “difficult” to shoot in Georgia if the law passes? How many abortions does It take to make a Disney movie? Perhaps they mean it will be difficult to reconcile their personal beliefs against the financial incentives while shooting there-
- but “difficult” to shoot there means they’ll somehow manage to put their outrage asides, that the film and the money still mean more. A difficult decision is one where the costs and rewards are so close its a hard call- but we will choose the one we feel has more weight, and they’ve basically said the money has more weight. So I support the idea behind this but if you’re going to talk about your principals in the same sentence you more or less say they are negotiable for the right price- maybe we don’t need to know about your principals at all.
They don't have massive studios in those countries. They are there for the landscape. Do you have ANY idea how massive disney's studio in GA is? It's seriously a $500 million property, and it's not just the stuff with the "Disney logo" attatched, pretty much the entirety of ABC is filmed there, most of the Hulu originals, and now a lot of the FOX shows.
