My cat was raised by two dogs, he has never even attempted to scratch me. I've always disliked cats because of how hyper they get but my guy, my boy, he isnt hyper at all. He lets me know when he's "gotta go" by meowing at the door, we let em out to do his business, and meows to be let back in. Trained by dogs.
Right now I have a scratch going down from the right corner of my mouth to my chin. Thanks to my cat Boogie. We got her feeding tube taken out yesterday. I have to feed her a kitty protein shake in a baby bottle and when I do she gets possessive. As if she is saying "Get your damn hands off my Ba Ba this is MINE!" lol
And due to her being unable to retract her claws (due to her being the size of a 8week old kitten even though she is 3 yrs old) I have to trim them often and well you think trimming a regular cat's claws is bad add mentally challenged in the mix and you find out why I have claw marks up and down both arms.
(-.-) I swear if she wasn't so cute and so kind, loving, and a hug/snuggle addict I would field goaled her ass years ago lmao jk jk lol
Well, I run into doorknobs quite frequently bc I'm really clumsy... but yeah, when one of my cat scratches me, it's probably because I've picked them up when they don't want to be.
I once dislocated my thumb by hitting a doorknob in a hall way lol it popped back into place real easily I thought I jammed the thumb first so I pulled it to pop it but it hurt like hell than it was alot better. Still soar but we went to the doctor anyway because it was all bruised. He asked if I popped my thumb into place myself because it was dislocated.
Now if I stiffen out my thumb I can click it. It sounds like I snapped my fingers. But if I do it to much my thumb locks up.
Look, if you were tiny compared to everyone else and they messed with you for unknown reasons, you’d be jumpy too.
Dogs bite/nip children sometimes because the child was doing something that was upsetting the dog and the dog couldn’t get away or didn’t know what else to do. We don’t really get too fussed at the dog if it is clear the child should have known better. We just teach the child to “read” the dog and/or don’t do stuff like pull their tail or ears.
There are bad tempered and poorly behaved members of every species. Generally, though, we give dogs who bite one child a second chance if it’s not egregious.
It is more helpful to consider that cats have been “pets” for much less time than dogs, and are usually smaller. If they scratch and bite, are they abusive and out to get you? Or are they little and doing their best? Are you maybe acting more like a thoughtless child in your actions and getting scratched as a result? We have 10 million unspoken rules for how to behave....
In public around other people. Because we get annoyed and are annoying. So we just keep to our own space and try not to be too noisy or too slow or too anything that would be bothersome. A cat is ALSO a living entity. They probably have stuff they find annoying. You put all this effort into behaving in public. You can put some effort into not being annoying to other species as well.
Cats want security and calmness. They want not to be messed with, to be warm, to be well fed and loved. You do too! You want that and can advocate for it! But you don’t insist on it from everyone. In most cases, you just want people to not mess with you. If they do, at minimum you’ll shoot them irritated glances. If biting and scratching instead of shouting and shoving were our weapons, we wont think twice about how cats react.
I think this is why actually dogs barking isn’t seen as a serious problem (even though it has a much longer range than scratching does). No touching.
Lol Allen is not the scratcher they are all good kitties. Just Boogie. But you can't really blame her she is mentally challenged so it be like yelling at a 3yr old with down syndrome for hurting you. It isn't really her fault she can't even retract her claws.
But thanks for the concern.
The reason that I hated dogs for years was because the one i had when I was younger pulled me into a muddy ditch and I was stuck there for nearly half an hour. I had to climb up some thorny brambles to get out, and pull the dog up with me. I've never had a cat do that to me.
