I used to use FF game soundtracks to fall asleep. They also helped me learn how to lucid dream, as I could keep the tunes in my head while shutting most of my brain down.
One of the best things I know is coming home from work, shower and eat something, and then play stardew valley a couple of hours, kind of half awake honestly, before its time to get some sleep for the next work day
Stardew Valley is one of those games that was derivative of something else and ended up replacing it, sort of like how Cities XL is now better and more popular than Sim City. I used to love Harvest Moon but Stardew Valley just does everything better
Of course, although what would be better would be for the genre to expand. Not that there aren't others, but there aren't a lot of choices and when something sucks (like the last Harvest Moon, for instance) you can spend a long time without something similar. I used to love Harvest Moon and without Stardew Valley, there's really only a couple of other games that match that playstyle, and they're not particularly good. I could play Cities XL forever but it'd be nice to see what another good team could accomplish in that style.
I agree completely, I think the way the game industry is going there's going to be some insanely good games on the way. Not just in the modern genre but indie games too, I think programs and ways to craft games are so much more accessible than before so it'll be easier for individual creators to get their stuff out into the world.
I feel like the adventure style games that we had for PS1 like the Dalmatians, lion king or little mermaid are completely lost now with the closest being Spyro or crash bandicoot. Wish we got that style back or if you guys know of any do let me know
Sorry, but just because (some) people enjoy games a lot, it doesn't mean gaming has the relevance of literature. First of all, everything you need to write a book is being able to write, and all you need to enjoy it is the ability to read and have some light. That means pretty much everyone who has a story to tell can just do it, pretty much everyone who wants to read it can just do it. Then, where is the game that literally changes the entire world? By entire, I mean also the world of people who don't have the hardware and can't afford the games, when books can and have change(d) the world for people who can't/don't read. Not to mention the gaming industry which is just insane turbo capitalism, see the latest edition of Patriot Act w. Hasan Minhaj
To me, video games make stories come to life. I love books with my heart and soul, I love games with my heart and soul too. I think they're so different it's almost pointless to compare them or place one above the other.
Given the fact I've not been complaining about anything or anyone at all, I could make quite the compelling point about how your text interpretation abilities may have to do with the fact that you're probably more into gaming than into reading, but I honestly don't believe there is a causal relationship. Your level of butthurtedness is sort of peculiar though.
Do you even know what butthurt means? It's like being overly defensive or hostile about something that doesn't pertain to you, nor was meant to be hurtful.
@halfdeadhammerhead. I see your point, books are more readily available and cheaper and almost anyone can do it. And yes, your mind is 1000000% better than any gaming rig that exists today. But I think you missed the point op wanted to make. He was just saying that games are not a waste of time just because other people (especially the elderly) believe that reading a book is a better use of your time.
Obviously is was supposed to be relatable, for any one who prefer gaming, hence the specific game names. He did not bash books at all.
Also, I don't see why you brought up the gaming industry, you just a hatter!!
@halfdeadhammerhead Sorry, I didn't mean this thread to turn into a weird little argument. I think some of your points are valid but honestly, I was just saying everyone should enjoy what they want. I don't think there's a need to create a debate here (not suggesting you're the cause).

@baloneyman - yup, have to confess you're right, I was charging against windmills here. And indeed I'm quite the mad hatter. Double touché
