Put him on a deferred payment plan, he should pay those tickets.

Good job. A system of justice should be based on resocialisation and reintegration instead of revenge or incarceration.

Dunno why you were downvoted, prison was originally designed for rehabilitation. Sadly nowadays, it's turned into yet another tool for making money, while paying them slave wages.

Thanks. And in many developped countries it has shown that prison isn't the way to go, at least not in the way it used to be done. Privatising the "prison business" was one of the most fatal ideas to reintegration, as it has caused lobbyism for incarceration.

Prison exists for the purposes of deterrence, rehabilitation, punishment, and incapacitation. It was never just for rehabilitation.

Yes, but punishment is the last thing it's supposed to do; the fact that it's changed to the point where most people think that it's main purpose is punishment shows that we need to change something in the system.

What makes you think it's not just a lack of education about the system?

If prison was the answer, mathematically the US should have the lowest crime rate on earth.

I can guarantee you the crime rate would be higher if prisons didn't exist.

Depends on the alternative. Just get rid of the penal system? Yes. Replace traffic fines and such with flaying and quartering? Less so.

Well, I can't flat-out deny that.
