The climate is changing, but I'm not going to entertain you wrecking my way of life while simultaneously fighting nuclear power and giving India a pass.
Considering India and China cause the overwhelming majority of the world's pollution, especially with China ramping up plans to build 22 new diesel and coal powered plants by EOY 2020, please dont give my country crap. The entirety of the world outside of India and China could immediately go 100% green overnight and it wouldnt even move the needle a little bit on combating the overall problem being mostly lead by rampant pollution and waste from... you guessed it... China and India.
Last I checked the US has eliminated enough carbon output to almost cancel the EU's increases. No way we're ever getting carbon negative enough to nullify anymore countries.
im not sure 2 counts as "a few" so ill add one myself.
the largest source of co2 emissions is transportation at around 29%but not by a large margin as its followed up by power generation at 28%
@dcottingham Ok, US-centric opinion: US and EU have the will and ability to be at a much lower percent. To use a tired phrase, US and EU are “developed” in the sense that we’ve been at this for a long time, whereas India and China are still getting to where US and EU have been. And why? Because US and EU spent a lot of effort and time holding many countries back. India and China both have amazing individuals and advances in every area. Just they were (and are) messed with.
(Side note!: This preaching about reducing emissions sounds like the same nonsense as US scolding China over IP while ignoring our own history of rampant IP theft. Could China do better? Sure. Do we have the moral high ground over IP or resource use? 100% Nope!)
US and EU can and should cut emissions. Period. China and India should cut emissions in balance with other priorities.
So they get a free pass and we get to starve? No. I'll see India, China, and the EU all burn before I let my people suffer so the aforementioned can carry on as they already have. News flash, the US has reduced carbon output. Almost enough to cover for the EU's increases.
@bethorien has a good point, 2 is not "a few."
Interesting to note then that if we can just get all cars, trucks, trains, boats, and planes converted to electric, then transportation will emit 0% of CO2, and power generation will emit 57%.
That wouldn't work out. There's not enough material to make that many electric vehicles and even just with the amount of electrics there are now the environment is being ass raped by the strip mines required to get it all. An equivalent amount of power would still be required and effectively the total emissions would be higher because of the that you lose power transferring it. The transport would still be fossil fuel generated just indirectly and, again, more total power would have to be generated to make it all work
China and India together produce 36% of global CO2 emissions. The US and EU produce 24%.
