Pakistanis, Bangaldeshis and Indonesians still are kept in slavery in Qatar, Dubai and in their own countries.
That doesn't make any other ethnecities suffering less worthy of talking about it.
Yes. Slavery STILL goes in around the world in 2019. There is no reason to compare it to other slavery though? It’s not going to change the life of a Romanian Sex slave or likely thrill them to find out that they are part of a long tradition of slaves and in the same boat as the Irish or the Hebrews once were. Whenever someone tries to compare Slavery in America to the “worse” slavery somewhere else stop listening. Stop. If every white person except for 10 were sold to Africa as slaves that would have shit to do with what Americans did to African slaves.
The fact Africans sold Africans into slavery is also meaningless. China Censors political speech harshly. Blizzard doesn’t censor as bad as China. So why is everyone mad at Blizzard? China censors Chinese people all the time no? You can’t control if Jim’s house is messy- you can control if YOUR House is in order. What, you going to bring over a hot date and say: “the crack house across town is WAAAY worse. Jim’s house is messy too...” Nope. That’s your mess. You the previous owner left the toilet plugged guess what? You gotta clean it or live with shit in your house. That’s life. You can pressure Jim to clean his house but you better have your house clean first- otherwise how the fuq are you gonna ask him?
Yeah, and what about when your house is clean, has been clean for years, your fucking grandfather died to make it clean, but motherfuckers still act like they're perfect and you never changed a thing, while they themselves are still beating their wife and taking your money after your father already died to get their houses back for them?
Ummmm..... I feel like if you’re going to use analogy you might want to perhaps both be more precise in intent- and more realistic to the analogous matter- the point of analogy is it is relatable. I don’t know how many people’s grandfathers died cleaning their house in a literal sense. Metaphor may not be as clear to your point here as direct language.
That said- if your House is so dirty that people living in it protest and make films and have rallies and need organizations about it- and the whole rest of the world is more or less aware of your domestic unrest- it probably isn’t clean. The parts YOU live in perhaps. Or perhaps it is clean enough for you- but you aren’t the only one in the house no?
But yeah. The analogy- not even being difficult or anything. I have almost no idea what you’re trying to say there. I think I know what you might be tryin to say- but I wouldn’t want to assume especially because I can see at least 3 ways that could be interpreted.
That the analogy doesn't work, that those criticizing are worse and/or outright wrong, and that America has suffered both to eliminate the institution of slavery and sacrificed much to benefit the naysayers.
So... the Naysayers... they aren’t also Americans? Are they not included in that equation? Because if we do the math:
Sacrifice to end slavery:
Group A and Group B= all Americans.
Suffered directly because of slavery:
Group B= only some Americans.
Total “suffering in slavery score:”
Group A= 1 Group B=2.
If you want to keep a score card we can analyze it that way. But you seem to forget that the “naysayer” are also Americans- and that only SOME Americans suffer directly from slavery.
The institution of organized slavery of African Americans etc. IS long dead. That is why you very seldom hear people being referred to as abolitionists any more. We are not talking about slavery. We are talking about the legacy of slavery. You know- like how even AFTER a crime is committed we don’t just call the whole thing done? Kinda like how those catholic priests touched some of those kids 30,50 years ago- they haven’t touched them sense. What’s the big deal right? Ancient history. Oh wait. No. There’s a legacy there. There is also a legacy with the CHURCH that has nothing to do with the individuals who touched kids.
Because when every 10 or 20 years we get confirmed cases of child molestation from the clergy- that means the clergy hasn’t fixed or done what was needed to stop it. So if the clergy says “HEY! No kids have been sodomized by priests for 200 years!” And you say- yeah. But I have video of a kid being coerced into giving a priest head from last week...” the sodomy portion of the problem might have been solved but kids still getting touched or violated is still a problem isn’t it? Would you agree that child molestation is a problem wether it’s sodomy or touching a kids privates?
So yeah. No more slavery (in the sense of colonial slavery. Not sex slaves etc) in America. Groovey. We stopped the sodomy. But what about the other stuff? Racism is like molestation. There’s more than one way to do it. Slavery was a symptom and a driver in racism in America. It happened and it left lasting legacies. We can’t close the book on slavery until we clean up those legacies.
Pretty sure the "white slaves" we're indentured servants that agreed to a certain number of years to pay their passage into the new world. They weren't kept forever and then bred like cattle
