Well... yes. You don’t really need an infographic for that one. Saddam Hussein won the 1995 presidential election AND 100% of votes in 2002 supported him In an election with an impressive 100% voter turn out. Wow. Seems likely the election was rigged. BUT- no proof otherwise was submitted and reviews so it was lawful by the countries government. Then we overthrew him (which we tried to do before.) There’s a very recent example of indirect meddling in the electoral process of another country.
Saddam wasn’t impeached or overthrown by internal politics- we did it. On the one hand- we can almost certainly say the election was internally tampered with. On the other- one might ask what business an outside government has stepping in wether it is or isn’t- wether there are or are not WMD’s. Those are matters of treaty and internal politics. Where no acts of war or declarations exist between two countries what right does one have to run another? America, Russia, the EU and UK all have WMDS. but... Russia can’t and likely wouldn’t just send their military here to look for the WMD’s it’s sure we are lying about having (especially on shitty intelligence.)
Point being two fold. 1. All world powers meddle in the elections of others. It’s just a question of wether you get caught, have support in your meddling, and it turns out well for the “right” people. 2. Not ALL Meddling in foreign elections is inherently sinister even if a great deal is. Even the UN using its forces to ensure peaceful and fair elections are held is meddling. As long as the country you’re punking isn’t a serious threat you can mostly do what you want. Russia meddling in US elections isn’t about principal of fair play- it’s about power and how the unwritten rule is equals don’t do that to each other-only “lesser” nations.
In other words: how well do you think the US would take it if another country sent a “peace keeping” or security force” to US soil under the mission heading that the US government can’t keep its children safe from shootings or its citizens safe from homicide? Not well. But the US military is a monster- so essentially no country would because to do so would potentially invoke the wrath of the US. When other countries do stuff like election tamper it pisses off the US because it makes the country look weak that others are willing to pick on it.
It's shocking how little people know of it, too. But as I was helping my sister with her history homework, the textbook had a part in the glossary about the "interventions" done by the U.S.
