No it's less impressive when a kid's family speaks one language even though they leave in a place that speaks a different language. It is obvious they will learn both the languages because children are like sponges.
It is impressive when both your parents speak the same language as the place they live. Because it means they had to have the kid taught the language. And it is different to grow up listening to 2 languages at once than to learn the language once you started to already know your own language.
It being the Royal family, who have to deal with international affairs, makes it 100% more expected to me. It being an extremely rich family also makes it more expected to me
I guess that makes sense wealthier people can afford paying for/making time for their children’s extra language. From this whole convo we’re approaching the answer that, 2 year olds who speak two languages isn’t impressive regardless of wealth or status.
you have a computer so you could have taught your kids another language FREE if you wanted too , but you are the type of people that say " o no it's the schools fault for not teaching a second language " sort your life out before you judge others.
Well said. She’s 2. She doesn’t have the cognitive ability or years on earth to understand her socioeconomics and such. It’s not less impressive when a poor child learns 2 languages- it doesn’t make the news because unlike a princess the world doesn’t tend to try and watch every intimate moment of a poor or even middle class child’s life. By the same token- is the achievement of a 2 year old learning diminished because of who their parents are? How bout this one- if the media is driven by profit to feed people what they want to see- if more people spent time and money caring about poor kids the media would too. The media is a mirror through which we can see society. It can distort the image but at its core what you see is the “average” reflected back.
I mostly meant that I know several children (immigrant and not) who can’t speak more than a couple words or in anything other than baby noises at 3. Hell I’ve seen 7 year olds who talk in “baby talk”. It takes loads of work to enrich a child’s ability to speak and sure she has money but her parents are busy and she would still have to work hard for her achievement
